When you arrive in Heathrow (or another England airport), they will stamp your passport with a six-month visa that applies to ALL tourists visiting. There is no need to apply for one ahead of time if you are just visiting the country.

The only conditions they will provide is that you do not apply for work or try accessing public funds as a visitor. If you ever needed another visa--or any other information regarding them, you can google 'UK visas'. Sometimes, you are eligible for extended stays. Check the site for more info though.

Since you are not a US citizen, you might not automatically get 6 months to play tourist visa-free. It depends if your home country has a tourist visa waiver agreement with the UK.

You need to check the entry requirements for your home country. Check with the nearest British consulate (or embassy if you're near DC), or do a search for visitor entry requirements using the link below.

dint know about the tourist thingy except go to the" citizens advise buearo "when you get there they are in every town they will tell you. how much did you pay for your flight and which one? i am going also ,i need a cheap flight so far i have been quoted $800.00 as the best yet?
