I feel like I've been cheated of getting a job. And now I'm bitter. It's not exactly income that I've earned, and it's a small amount anyway. I know I should not have any excuses, but like I said I'm bitter and life ain't that great financially. So seriously am I really cheating God or am I excused from having to tithe?

As funny as it sounds....it says to tithe in the bible, but did God really say give all of your money and don't eat? I have been in your situation. Remember the mother who only had a penny and gave it. Tithing should not put you out. I have had the chance to be on social services with 4 kids. Did jesus or God say don't take care of your family because I get your money first? No he did not! Infact God put it in the bible that the Family is sacred. You should put your family first, yourself, then God. If your that much without the needs of the family should be met first. I hated not being able to have much to give, so sometimes I would give other things instead of money....like time to church or helping someone in need. It became a tithe of my heart. Later things changed and I could tithe a bit of money. Yet the Church uses the tithe for those in need, for the church. The church should never pressure you so much for tithe that you can't even take care of your family or your self. No I don't think it is an excuse. It is common sense. Have faith things will change and life will get better for you, just don't become bitter because of it. NO tithing won't 'bless you' either. No one can pay their way into heaven with anything earthly. Be more concerned about your spirit and relationship with God rather than the money for the church.

Anytime in my life when I've been down on my luck financially, I increase my tithe to 15 or 20%.

You get out of life what you put into it.

Here's the trick, though... You have to tithe without expectation. Don't put a $20 in the plate and say "Ok, God... There's my $20... I expect $200 (you know - ten fold)!"

Here's another piece of advise for you: If you start concentrating on helping other less fortunate than you (I know - you're thinking that will be hard to find, right)... you will find your luck will improve (or at least your prospective on your own hard luck will improve).

So... Go to the pastor today... Tell him you forgot to put your tithe in the plate and tell him "I'm not working today anyway, is there a homeless shelter or convalescent center that you can recommend I go volunteer at for the day."

You will get those blessings back 10 fold. I guarantee it.

God Bless you!

It's a matter of the heart. God loves a cheerful giver. I've counted myself so blessed to be ABLE to give ANYTHING to God in times when I've been nearly destitute. Believe me, He blesses that. I've been living on a $400 monthly deficit for the past 7 months. God has stretched what I have miraculously. I've not paid a single bill late yet. In fact, one time I felt like I should give an extra $20 at church. I didn't tell anyone, I just did it. That week I found $400.00 in my checking account. It never showed up as an extra deposit. I've never found where it came from. God WILL meet our needs. Do what's right. Period.

Since it's a matter of the heart, it sounds like you need to forgive (we're commanded - it isn't a choice, if we want forgiveness) and ask God to help you be rid of that root of bitterness. Bitterness will destroy you and many around you. Please don't let that happen.

The scripture for it is that we're to tithe our increase. Is it increasing what you would have had? Tithe it.

1) You are not cheating God. God doesn't get a cent of that money.....

but i am going to assume that you feel that the money going to what you feel is an agent of God is close enough so..

2) You are still not cheating God. IT IS money you earned since they took it from income you earned. Since that money came from money you already earned and paid tithes on, you would be paying the tithe twice on the same money.

Just because it says to tithe in the bible, doesn't mean that you should nowdays with some church elders using that money to line their own pockets.
I don't think that it would be right to force anyone to tithe, if they don't want to or could afford to, no matter what the financial situation is.
No, I don't think that your cheating god because you can not afford to give 1/10th of your check.

your not "cheating God" , God wants you to be able to survive, and lets face it on social security , you are barely doing that anyway... there are plenty of ways to "give to God" other than financially...you can give of yourself, your time, volunteering etc... such as visiting people in nursing homes etc. I think God would appreciate that so much more than 10% of your allowance.... how many people tithe to the church and do not act in a christian way to others? plenty....and try to keep in mind that what ever disability you have is not God punishing you, God may be testing you and making you stronger, but God is walking with you , and loves you ....

Remember the story of the woman who gave her last dime to the lord... She was blessed with plenty. Tithes were supposed to be the first fruits. The best. The lord gets his share first, then you. But don't do it if you don't want to because the spirit in which you give is more important than the giving itself. Good Luck

If you having to go into any debt because of tithing in any way, I don't think God will hold you accountable. I don't think God wants his children go into debt to give to the church. If you do some research you will found many versus in the Bible to support with I am saying.

If tithe you mean give ten percent may be you could give less and give more of yourself and help out the church doing otherstuff
I think god understands as long as you give off yourself I think that is the most important. I think it may help you feel better too.
I think the saying gooes something like this in the bible. Give to ceasar what is ceasar and to God what is God's. good luck!
