I am doing some research regarding optometrist in a free-standing environment and was looking to see if optometrist get paid according to dispensary or just a basic annual salary?

However if you don't care to look it up, from what I read on the subject the answer could be either dispensary or basic annual fee. It all depends on what is offered by whom ever is running the clinic.

They get payed the same just like doctors. The more patients that they have. The more the will get payed. I know this because we have a good family friend who is and optometrist. I asked him this stuff before when i was considering to do stuff in the medical field. I asked him what about the pay in a free-standing environment and he said just like doctors. We get payed more if we have more patients.

They get paid by seeing patients, same as any. They charge for their services and bill insurance, when needed. No different than affiliated doctors.

free clinics get there money from grants from the government.

the idiot that told you they charge insurance doesnt know what hes talking about.
