An ionic dryer emits negatively charged ions that boost hair health. The negative ions break down water molecules to one-fifth of their size, so they're able to penetrate each shaft, hydrating from the inside out. This makes the cuticle lie flat, encouraging glossy shine. Regular hairdryers just blow hot air.

Supposedly it makes your hair shinier and takes less time to blow dry. I have a cheap revlon one and don't really notice that big of a difference. But my friend has a pro one she bought at Sephora and she says it's so worth the money that I plan on getting one.
