it depends on the values. If they are teaching kids to be honest, share, and be kind to others I say go for it. As long as they aren't actually teaching religon.

Biblical religion should be apart of the school curriculum and the Ten Commandments should be teached. The moral decay registered in the Bible always happens when God's people stop obeying God's law and thats when everything starts to go bad. I don't think we should force religion on anyone but i think it should be an open option in all schools. It was the foundation of America and America should behave like a heathenistic nation without religion and values. But the Bible has to be fulfilled and thus the prophecy states that men will turn their backs on God's Law but blessed are those who keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus Christ.

Religious values won't mean anything to a student unless Christ is also taught. Chrst is the foundation of religios values. Ther is no reason to love your neighbor if evolution is true. Survival of the fittest! That's what Hitler believed. Islam teaches to kill the infidels, meaning Jews and Christians, that is not loving. A Pastor in India was just beaten by radical Hindus. and many other religions also teach hate instead of love. The ironic thing is that most of these religions/worldviews are being taught in public schools. But do they teach Christianity and Christ which does promote love for God and one another? NO!

Oh come on, you can have values and still not be religious. Religious people follow a set of values, but still, everyone needs to learn how to do the right thing. It doesn't have to involve the abortion debate or anything. But basic things like being kind to others, sharing, etc. are good for anyone to learn.

I think values relating to courtesy and human kindness should definitely be taught. Please, thank you, taking turns, sharing, asking permission, honesty, etc. You might be afraid of religious values sneaking in, but in my opinion, as long as teachers give tests there will always be someone praying in school. Have a happy day!

There are plenty of universal values that can be taught without making them just Christian values.Of course it may leave the back door open for some Christian dogma to sneak in.

I think that discussing values, and how important it is to have them, is fine in school. Especially in psychology or philosophy classes.
I think it is wrong to teach any particular values in school, especially ones that are based on religion, other than "love everyone and treat them equally."

yes, its ok. as long as its not religiously oriented.
for example, you can say that stealing and cheating is bad because that's actually applicable in a school setting, and it transcends religious belief.
but saying for example that its bad for a boy to like other boys or that sex is wrong, or that alcohol is wrong is subjective and not a universal value.
or you can just make kids read kant, a simplified version of course.

I think that teaching values in public schools is a great idea.
I'm not so sure about the idea of public schools, however...
