I have severe dandruff and have had it for a few years now. When I first got it I wasn't so bad, but in the last year or so it has gotten really bad, so bad infact that I have a bold patch at the base of my head. I have used all of the anti dandruff shampoos on the market, such Herbal Essences, Loreal, Garnier Fructise, Vosene, Head and Shoulders, Pantene, T Gel and something from the Body Shop. I have been to see my doctor and was given Polytar and this made no difference, so I went back and was given a medicated shampoo which begins with K.
Its getting me down and I want this to be solved. AAlso could it be linked to genes, because my mum had it bad when she was around my age and she says that It will sort it self out, but nothing is happening, HELP PLEASE SOMEONE ANYONE. THAKS.

I tried all those shampoos too and they never worked. I never went to the doctor about it though. I think as I got older it started to go away. But what I use right now is the walmart brand dandruff shampoo and what ever conditioner. I wash my hair once with a clarifying shampoo, that walmart brand, and then the conditioner. I make sure that I scrub and rinse really well. I also wash my hair every day, otherwise, it get's flaky. Sorry I'm not much help, but hopefully things will work out soon for you.

You need to wash your hair in tepid water.Dandruff is a white/yellow soft crust that sticks to the scalp, there is a difference between a dry scalp and dandruff.there are two treatments for dandruff, tea tree and zinc.tee tree is popular but if it does not work for everyone (eg ME) ( you need to give it at least a month to be effective though) you could try a zinc based product such as Redken 'solve shampoo'. If you have dandruff, unfortunately it is unlikely to go away,it tends to clear up for a while but invariably comes back at some time,so always keep a preventative shampoo in your bathroom cabinet. Hope this helps, let me know. X

Have u ever considered that maybe u are allergic to something? It sounds as though u may be. I had a hair dresser tell me this and I didnt believe her for a while. She told me to drink more water, and not to add any oil or products in my hair. Well it turned out that I was allergic to oil. I have naturally oily hair, but get dandruff very bad sometimes. I stopped putting the oil in my hair when straightening it, and the dandruff eased up very well. Also scented products can be giving u an allergic reaction. It doesnt exclude non hair products. Make a list of of everything that u use, lotions, oils, sprays, etc. Dont exclude a food allergy. I hope that u get some relief.

I also went thru the same trouble. There is a shampoo "Selsun." Its effective but takes few weeks and is strong. I wud suggest a sure shot way. Immerse henna overnight. Add juice of two amlas, one lemon and one egg half an hour before applying. Apply it all over covering the scalp and hair roots. U will need to go to parlour or someone who can apply it. Apply this twice a month and ur hair wud stop falling and dandruff wud b gone with the first application. I benefitted thru this method.

I used to have severe dandruff as well. My scalp would itch terribly. Lately I discovered tea tree oil, and my dandruff has really improved. Every time I shampoo my hair, I add a few drops of tree tree oil to the shampoo and mix. If you have a dry scalp, you should consider concocting your own once-a-week hair treatment. You can combine a few drops of tea tree oil with an once of jojoba oil and massage it into your scalp. Leave it on overnight if you wish. You can buy tea tree oil in the vitamin section of a drug store and department stores like Target and Wal-Mart.

I've also had luck with natural shampoos. I suppose my scalp finds them less irritating. I really like Burt's Bees Super Shiny shampoo and conditioner, but I can't afford them at the moment. If you can afford natural shampoos, you should give them a go. You can find natural shampoos in a natural/health food store or online at places like http://www.drugstore.com/.

Try Alphosyl 2 in 1 shampoo ( on prescription) + Inecto pure coconut conditioner. do not dry your hair with a rubbing actiion rather a patting action . do not use a blow drier. in the sun always wear a hat , comb your hair carefully without touching the scalp. water must be warm and never hot .Good luck

Have you tried washing your hair twice before using conditioner? Putting less product after the shower helps too. Aswell as baby powder, so I hear.

it's best to go to a salon and get a professional product. you can also try rinsing your hair with cider vinegar. leave it on for about ten minutes and then rinse well or it will leave the smell in your hair as well.
