It is better to understand rather than to memorize. Anyway, try to create many associations between new things and ones that you know. Try to think of many ways how you might use these new things in the future. If these things are tools, start applying them. Also, you can think of some transformations that would make these things more useful/entertaining/memorable. Hope this will help.

The way I memorize things is one section at a time. I repeat the first few lines 10-15 times, till I can recite it from memory, then I add on the next few lines. That works pretty well with poetry, but I don't know what you're trying to memorize. It might be easier some other way, if poetry isn't what you're trying to memorize.

Advertisers get you to remember their product through spaced repetition. You see the same ad on TV several times with a TV show in between. You see the same ad in the newspaper and hear it on radio.

Work hard on the thing you are memorizing, then take a break go back to it, break again and so on.

When I memorized lines for the lead in a play, it helped me to notice patterns and look at the bigger picture as well as the lines. I saw how they fit and why each line was said when it was said and it helped me remember when to say them. I have to say this now so later that person will do that, etc.

well, it's different for different people becuase people have different learning styles. I memorize things better if I have a visual, like flash cards. Just try different things to see what works for you. Also, if I'm memorizing for a test or something, I make sure to read over notes 10 minutes before test time. That helps out a lot.

Write down the thing you are trying to memorize 5 times, and read it out loud every time you memorize it. Then repeat it 5 times and you should know it very well. This works for me in law school. Never fails, try it and let me know what you think.

Good Luck

Everyone has their own ways of memorizing. Mneumonic (sp?) devices help to memorize a list of things, such as (Every Able Dog Growls Barks & Eats- EADGBE= the strings on a guitar). If it is a speech, practice out loud and repeat it until you know it by heart. That's how we all learned the Pledge of Allegiance as kids.

15 minutes at a time. The part of your brain that deals with memorization can only handle that short amount of time. Then taking hour breaks between memorization.

When memorizing stuff like scripts I start from the back and work my way forward.

The best way I memorize things is to take a moment and picture whatever I'm trying to memorize in my head. This especially works well with numbers.

Take notice to the aroma of your surroundings. Take a flower, for instance. You put your nose up to a gardenia, and you automatically find the word to describe the aroma. Obviously, it smells like a gardenia. The trick is to keep the vision of that flower and the aroma in your head, so that when you smell the aroma somewhere else, you can visualize the flower and find the word.

Another great trick I use for memory is to put whatever I'm trying to remember to a melody.

It works different for different people. I learn better by reading. In general, whatever method you use, it is repeating it many times that works. If you are visual, read and re-read what you are memorizing until you have it. If you are an oral/auditory person, say it and hear it over and over again until it is memorized.
