so that people under the age of 21 can get a taste of beer. The beer companies will sell more because people under the age of 21 are buying it. Also, we all know that drinking too much beer can cause you to get drunk. And what happens when a drunk person get's in a car? Two badly damaged cars and some dead or badly hurt people. With alcohol free beer you can drink as much as you want and still drive home safely.

i might be wrong, so don't count on it!!

It's so that people can get the taste of beer, but not have the effect of alcohol. I drink it when I'm going to be driving, and I drank it after an illness when I was told, no alcohol for 4 months. When I was in a pub it meant it looked as though I was drinking beer.

I agree--why bother, especially if it's not a good non-alcoholic beer. And yes, there is such a thing as a good non-alc beer. It's called Munkholm and it's very popular in northern Europe. I've had 3-4 in past several weeks myself. The flavour, texture, and finish is very close to it's alcoholic brother (unlike O'drools and other nasty swill that I used to get in N. America). Drinking alc-free beer is a good way to be social without the effects of alcohol on the brain and body. In coutries where the tolerance for drink-driving are severe and immediate (loss of license on first offence in most cases) it is a good alternative.

Some who enjoy beer on a regular basis, may go through something (an illness, perhaps) and be on medication that is not safe to mix with alcohol. The beer acts as a placebo, giving the taste (somewhat) that you desire without the negative side-effects or interactions.

Some people, like my mother, react badly to alcohol but like a nice cold one occasionally. And in many places minors can enjoy a so-called alcohol-free beer.

cause some people love the taste of beer and can't have all the alcohol that is in regular beer

because people ACTUALLY like the taste of beer. Beer goes good with meals, people who don't/can't drink order non-alch beer instead. It's the same as decalf coffee. Like beer, there's still a trace of caffine in it. Why waste 4 bucks on a decalf coffee, if you don't want the caffine?

I guess it's for those people who love the taste of beer but don't want the side effects that come with it later. For example, a hangover.
