Yes, I currently have 3 adopted greyhounds and I am fostering another, though none came from the group you are referencing. Greyhounds are wonderful pets and Greytalk is a greyt website to learn more about them. I would like to add that much of the above information is true, but track greyhounds are not abused and the number of greyhounds put to sleep simply because their racing career ends is very small.

YES! YES! YES!!! I have five greyhounds of my own. They are wonderful pets. There are tons of greyhound rescue groups. Type in greyhound rescue in your area in the browser bar and see what comes up. Also, Greyhound Pets of America is a good place to start, too. They are a national organization with A LOT of local chapters throughout the US. Check 'em out!

I haven't myself but know someone who had several of them. Most of them will need training - they don't know many of the things other dogs learn as young adults. She stressed NONE could be turned loose - a leash or fenced yard was important. Some (not all) can't be trusted with other *small* pets (small dogs, cats, etc). I know of an incident where a greyhound killed two small dogs. They were originally bred to chase things down and kill it - so that instinct is there even though they're linked with racing now.

My sister adopted a greyhound after they retired him from racing.......she had him for about 15 years but had to put him down...........but he was the calmest dog I had ever seen ....He was very loveable . And man could he run ..She would let him outdoors and he would take off running around the house. Very nice animal to have .
Don't know where she adopted him from

they are friendly gentle animals. but let them out and they will run like the wind. bringing them to a highschool track lets them run in the circle they love. they are abused animals who spend all their non-racing and training time in a cage. they will be quiet and docile in your house. they will usually find a corner to lay. they do make good pets but may not be trained to go the bathroom outside. they only race for 2-4 years and then they are adopted or killed. you would be an angel to adopt one. julie

I have not adopted one, but I have heard that they are very calm pets. I saw a bunch up for adoption at a PetSmart once, and they all seemed very calm.
