I went to Paris and had an option of either going to the Louvre or going shopping in a huge mall (forgot the name.) The reason why I had to choose was because I was on a tour and we had a limited time schedule. Half of the tour was going to the Louvre and the other half wanted to go shopping, and after that I couldn't do the other option.
I picked shopping after talking with a few other people on my tour. One in particular with whom I had spoken with said they had seen the Mona Lisa before. She's about the size of a piece of paper and one can see a better (larger) picture of her on the big screen or on a poster, etc.
I don't regret my decision. After all, not many get to shop in Paris (:

It's worth seeing any painting face to face as you can not get a full appreciation from a reproduction. I study art history and visit many a galleries on a regular basis. To see a painting properly you need to be able to do two things. Firstly you need to see it from the artists point of view. If we're talking about the Mona Lisa, then you need to be pretty close to. Just think how close Leonardo would have been when he painted it. Don't worry about the guards and the crowds. I've done this many times. Get up as close to it as you can without touching it and look carefully. You'll see the brushtrokes of the master, even though there is a perspex barrier in front of the work. Another thing you may want to do is to take 2 L shaped peices of grey card with you. Hold the two peices together like a frame and look through the window you've made so as to frame the work. You've done it correctly when you can see only the painting, no frame or anything else. The grey card is neutral and many frames obscure the works they were in and were not original. You'll feel as though you've seen a picture for the first time. The clarity is startling!

Hmmm.. You're posing your question in a kinda strange way.. Despite that (:-P), I want to say that I ve been to the Louvre three times and I still don t think that I ve seen everything I want to see.. If you re interested in art and enjoy it, I think you will find many an interest in the Louvre. It is a huge museum with all kinds of art. Now about Mona Lisa: half the world wants to see it because it s considered to be such a masterpiece, and the rest are sick of hearing about it. You have to bear in mind that it s not something glamorous, it's a very old painting and it won t dazzle you. However, in my opinion, it has some fascinating qualities(I found that it really seems that she s "looking" at you no matter where in the room you re standing) and I believe it is worth seeing. Anyway, even if you dont like mona lisa, even if you re not interested in art, painting, statues etc in general, I think that Paris is a city worth visiting for a variety of reasons. And after all, travelling seldom does any harm.. I suggest you go to Paris, and have a wonderful time.. Hope I helped!!

I've been to Paris a few times and I love it. However, I would not go JUST to see the 'Mona Lisa', but it is worth seeing when you visit. Honestly I was a little disappointed because the Louvre was very crowded and I was rushed along. It is an amazing piece of historical art and I can say that I've seen it with my own eyes. If you do go make sure you explore the Eiffel Tower, The Arc De Triomphe and the Notrre-Dame Cathedral...just to name a few.

that would depend on several things....
how much time do you have to spend in Paris?
if you are on a limited scedule I would say no.
however, if you feel like when you get home you'd be disappointed...... think about it... you get home and people might even ask... "did you go to the Louvre?... did you see the mona...? is it important to you to be able to say later in life that you saw the actual painting?.....
My opinion though about it after seeing it is that it was a bit of a let down... the museum was not crowded at the time but the painting was so small and seemed insignificant when considering how much else there was in the museum.... sorry if that offends mona lisa lovers.... but I think I' rather go back to the Musee D'orsay and see some more there....
I'd suggest (because I love food).... emerse yourself in the french culture of dinning and great wine.... life is too short not to ......
hope I helped.....

I thiink it is worth it, because of its history as a piece of art. For me, I think visiting historical places and also seeing original works of historic art in a way connects you with the time period of the place or art. You get to experience a piece of culture from that time period.
I haven't been to Paris, but I hop to go sometime. I have been to Manhatten twice. The first trip focused more on going to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. I didn't go up into the statue either, but I was glad for the chance to see Lady Liberty. I had always wanted to go see it before then.

Um i thought it was pointless
The Lourve has so MANY other piantings that are worth while. I mean everyone knows what the Mona Lisa looks like, thanks to alot of pop culture refrences. But really, there really isnt anything really special about the Mona Lisa. I mean its a Portriat of girl who didnt smile, and a painting Da Vinici carried with him everywhere he went.
So no, dont waste your time trying to see the Mona Lisa (it even has its OWN WALL...wtf) and go on to see other paintings.
