She says that's why they "wolf" down human food so fast, because they can't taste it with their tongues anyway. I say they do it as an instinct left over from being wolf: the faster you eat something rare and precious (a piece of cheese when you're used to kibble, say) the less likely someone else will snatch it up away from you.

Their sense of taste is mostly in their noses. They do taste by tongue though.
Many of them just don't enjoy chewing and savoring as humans do.
They just wanna get the gut full fast.

This behavior goes back to the wild dogs, as, if the meal wasn't consumed fast, they wouldn't get their share.

Dogs do not have tastebud in their stomachs.
If you were fed the same thing every day of your life when someone gave you something different you would wolf it down also.
Dogs do tatse foods. I have one that likes bananas and one who will spit them out. He knows they are food but does not like the taste or the consistancy I am not sure which. He eats almost everything else I have ever given him.

A dog's senses of taste and smell are closely linked and it is possible that dogs gain more imformation about food from its smell than from its taste. Most of a dog's taste buds are clustered around the tip of the tongue. Dogs can detect bitter, sweet, salty, and sour tastes, but their sense of taste is relatively poor and they have only one-sixth the number of taste buds that humans have
