I replaced the bulb on my truck, but can't figure out if these are working or they are just out. I've checked the fuse, but they still don't come on. I thought they came on when you back up but I may be mistaken, which is why I am asking.

THE CARGO LAMP IS FOR ELUMINATING THE CARGO AREA IN LOW LIGHT SITUATIONS(PRIMARIARLY WHEN A CAP IS IN USE) AND IS CONTROLED BY A SWITCH IN THE CAB OF TRUCK, USUALLY LOCATED W/ OR NEAR THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH AND OR THE DASH LIGHT DIMMER SWITCH.

RE:
What is a truck's cargo lamp used for? They are right beside the high brake lamp but don't turn on?

The cargo lamp is used for lighting the bed of the truck. You did not say what year your truck is, but on mine, the cargo lamp is turned on when the dome lamp is turned on by turning the headlamp switch counter clockwise.

It probably means your handbrake is on a little bit. Try to release it so the hand brake is fully off, If that doesnt work then have someone check the switch that operates the lights. But have your brakes checked by a mechanic. The light might be saying there is something wrong. Good Luck

You said it... Cargo Lamp.
It is for seeing your load in the bed of the truck at night... Not to blind other drivers!

Try opening your drivers side door, I have a F150 XLT and the lights (one each side of the brake light) come on if my door is open, I guess so that I can see anything in my tray.
