"To Kill a Mockingbird" Is about a black man being accused of a crime he did not commit. This was mainly because he was black. It refers to a time when African Americans were labeled as bad and had no rights. Even though slavery had been abolished, segregation was still very active. Civiol rights means being allowed to live your life within the law and to have the rights of any other human being. Not being judged by the color of your skin. for example, Rosa Parks was not allowed to sit where she pleased on the bus. She had no civil rights. The character in "To Kill a MOckingbird" did not have the right of innocent until proven guilty: because of the color of his skin. This is what the African American community has been fighting for decades. Basic Civil Rights. I hope this helps.
