Just about anything you like. My ex used to put hot sauce into the cheese sauce and then baked the macaroni after he had assembled it into a baking dish. I sometimes put some meat in there (ie. salami, sausage, chicken). My sister used to crumble crackers on top and then bake it to give it a real crunchy texture. Whatever you like to have - just experiment and see what works.

I make my own mac & cheese and bake it in the oven I use elbow macaroni, cheese sauce, butter, milk. After it bakes for about 5 -8 min I sprinkle shredded cheese over it. For added taste you can put chopped ham in it I even add a little sugar to sweeten it up some.

You can add salsa to Mac and Cheese to spice it up a little.
Another easy dinner to make is to just add a can of cream of mushroom soup, a can of sliced mushrooms and a can of tuna, add a little garlic powder and stir. This can be made on the stove top or pop it in the oven to warm.

A lot of people add hotdogs to it. Or you could add some kind of veggies to it to make like a mac and cheese salad or something.

2½ cups of penne pasta
1 cup cooked steak or leftover roast beef sliced thinly
1/2 cup of thinly sliced onion
1/2 cup thinly sliced green peppers
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
3 tablespoons of butter
1 tablespoon flour
1/2 teaspoon red pepper
2 cups of milk
1 cup of shredded American cheese
1 1/2 cups of shredded Swiss
Cook pasta according to directions and drain.
Meantime, melt butter. Cook onions, peppers and mushrooms till tender but not brown. Add flour and red pepper. Stir in milk till bubbles and starts to thicken. Add all the American Cheese and 1 cup of the Swiss, reserving the other 1/2 cup of Swiss for later. Stir and cook on low heat for a few minutes until the cheese melts.
Add the penne pasta, cheese sauce and cooked steak or beef in a casserole, oven-safe dish. Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, or until it starts to bubble. During the last five minutes of cooking, add the remaining 1/2 cup of Swiss cheese on top.
Great served with sour cream and slices of toasty, warm bread.

We brown some ground beef and add that to ours. I like to add a little chili powder and of course lots of cheese. Or just the ground beef with salt and pepper tastes great too.
