Why do Dogs always run out and bark at black people?

The neighbor's dog never bothers anyone except my roomate, who is black. He cornered him in his car the other day and he couldn't get out. LOL.

This has happened more than once with other friend's dogs and other black friends of mine. One of my friends (black) said he heard that dogs can't see them b/c of the dark skin color and the dogs' color blindness. It is quite humorous when I see it. But I feel bad for my friends.

And don't give me that crap that an owner trains his dog to be racist. The dog isn't a kid ya know.

Dogs are fearful and untrusting of anything different. If you lived in a predominantly Black neighborhood, their dogs would bark at you.
Most dogs will bark at a funny hat, or scarf, or uniform, or noise. ...anything that is different to them.

My own dogs bark at me when I put on a hat, or hood..then act sheepish when they discover it is just me..
they bark at my husband when he puts on a Western hat, as he usually wears a cap.

Hes lucky the dog is just barking and not attacking, which it what my dog would do. And no I didnt train my dog to be racist I just dont have any black friends. When a black person comes to my house it is just very different for my dog and he acts with aggression just because hes not sure what else to do. Heck my dog get all freaked out and growls at me if I wear sunglasses and a hat into the house until I talk to him and he realizes is just me, because he only sees me like that once or twice a year.

Have your friend carry little dog treats and give the dog a few when he gets to your house, soon the dog will know him as the "treat guy" and realize hes not a threat

Our dogs only care about whether a person is a stranger, then what their mannerisms, and behaviors project. We are white, and when my son has had black friends over, the dogs only care that it is more boys to play with. These boys were ages 13 to 18 yrs old.
It sounds like you didn't properly introduce your roommate to your dog. I believe that you could have shown your dog that the guy was ok.

Dogs will bark at things they are not conditioned to, whether that be a black person, white person, children, rabbit, cat, etc. They also will react to a person they sense fear from, whether that be what they sense from their owner, or the object of their reaction..

It is not normal dog behavior, but some dogs do have certain people they provoke.
It is probably something the dog senses, or maybe your roommate has a fear of dogs that he knows.
Most likely, it has nothing to do with your roommate's skin color.

If that's what the dog was trained to do, then it is only following instructions.

It sounds like you don't have a truly scientific sample with only one person the dog barks at. If you observe the dog barking at other black people, and only black people, then I'd say your question holds water. On the other hand it's possible your roommate has something else that triggers the dog, like a particular cologne or something.

The dog is not reacting to the color of a person's skin. I have found that many people raised in the Black culture are raised by their parents to fear dogs, therefore the dog is responding to the fear not the color of a person's skin.

oh my, Race has nothing to do with it. Dogs live in packs and we are there pack. They protect the territory around the home. So they bark if strangers come by.
i lived next door to a house with this huge dobie. He considered our drive way and house part of his territory he would bark at anyone who did not live in one of the houses. He would always bark at my boyfriend who he did not see as part of the pack.

and yes dogs can be taught to be race differences with behavior management
