yes. people refer to Manhatten as New York City, however New York City is made up of 5 boroughs

Manhattan is one of five boroughs of New York City. The others are Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island. All together they make up NYC. Manhattan is the NYC most people recognize however because of the skyline, Wall Street, New Year's festivities in Times Square, Central Park, and so on.

I lived there, schooled there, and loved it there for 6 years, going from Up state, NY.
