Billie & Buttercup (and others)
Have some good ideas (on what this might be)
I suggest that you speak with your doctor (or psychiatrist)
to figure out if your medication (or other factors)
might be the root cause of your afflictions (or the reactions)
then it will become much easier for you to seperate yourself from whatever the problem might be (that brings out the response)
I wish you the best of luck.. (and apologize for all these stupid parentheses)
seriously.. you sound as if this might be panic related social anxiety..
I have had great results with Ativan on an as needed basis for when my bipolar disorder goes too far up on the manic side.. Ativan is a very nasty kind of use as last resort type drug. Very addictive .. lots of dangerous side effects with repeated use and very very hard to kick a habit with (worse than heroin)
But on an 'as needed' basis .. perfect for me..
speak with a doctor.. they know you almost as good as you know yourself.. they usually hold the keys to your sanity in their pen :)
or wear dark reflective sunglasses.. Sometimes I feel safer or less vulnerable knowing the general public can't see my eyes to make natural eye contact with.
Butter's links are great.. :) she will be getting a mouseclick from me when the time comes.

No, I don't have this problem, but I do sympathize with your situation. It must be really hard for you to have a decent social life. Did you have this this exact problem before you began taking the meds? I for one, do not believe that people should take psych meds. They are synthetic and I believe they are addicting. Try some type of meditation. You should learn some breathing techniques. I do hope you find the help that you are looking for. Take Care......

Hi. Sounds like anxiety alright, specifically, Social Anxiety Disorder. I believe there is hope for overcoming this condition, beyond merely treating symptoms with medications. Of course meds can help some for now. Learn all you can about your condition and please check out the following web links. Blessings to you as you search for long-lasting solutions to this problem. You will feel better. Buttercup
Lucinda Bassett's program can help you help yourself. It uses videos, tapes, and a workbook. Remember, your mental health is worth every penny or bit of energy you have to spend to feel good.

I have heard of something like this before. Basically, I think, maybe keeping ur anderline level low may help. If you go to gym or do some regular running or take up a sports, it might help you to control your impulse of running. Best of Luck

I feel the same; almost the same way. I am very conscious of everything going on around me. Maybe way too conscious! I believe it is the way my brain works. Instead of wanting to run I suppress this feeling almost to the point of "freezing" as you said; like a deer in the headlights; however I don't feel like running, I feel like fighting. I suppress this because I know it is uncalled for. I realize it is just a normal defense mechanism inside my mind. I don't take offense too easily after I have realized that this is probably what I am really feeling (usually being upset and offended.)
I like the scriptures at 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 "4 Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, 5 does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. 6 It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. 7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
“Just as you want men to do to you, do the same way to them.” (finding good friends) Luke 6:31
People can be very offensive by how they act and speak; which is usually what I find offensive. I would like to be very different from them (with the world's types of freedom of speech);
"Let fornication and uncleanness of every sort or greediness not even be mentioned among you, just as it befits holy people; neither shameful conduct nor foolish talking nor obscene jesting, things which are not becoming, but rather the giving of thanks."—Ephesians 5:3, 4.
I also realize that I am very at fault for things of my own, so why should I get offended by others so easily?
My own experience with having anxiety of this type may very well be linked to my brain chemistry; my childhood upbringing; experiences through life; allergies to pollens such as mold and fungus spores; the way my brain is functioning (perhaps incorrectly); and my own feelings of morality.
I also believe that I have the right to feel the way I do; perhaps for good reasons. What I have worked on is understanding the reality of the matter; as it seems you are attempting to do as well. What also matters a lot is how I decide to react to my thoughts and feelings. I can even "pre-think", as I am sure must be one of your coping-mechanisms as well; in order to deal with all of what is going on around me. I must sometimes MEDITATE and ready myself before I venture out.
What sucks the most is that few people are even aware of what it is like to have to deal with this on such a level. I call it ignorance; as they say "ignorance is bliss."
I don't think I am "crazy" as much as I think I am "mental" or "emotional." I think others have learned how to become numb in order to survive; or they just succumb to not caring or putting effort into anything otherwise.
Yes- I believe it goes along with the way the mind takes in and processes information. I personally think it would be best for me to find the ideal location and circumstances in which to place myself to become the most comfortable dealing with the way my mind works. Now if only society had the ability to help me out with this.
