That would depend entirely on what kind of worms the puppy has. At 8 weeks the pup should be going in to see the Vet and they will worm the puppy with the appropriate medication. Do not believe the over the counter wormers that say they kill all intestinal worms. It takes different kinds of medication to kill different worms and it is not possible to put them all into one pill without hurting the dog.

Whatever you call it...Nemex, Strongid...it is all pyrantel pamoate.
It kills roundworms and hookworms. It should be given every 14 days for a total of 4 doses. Worm other dogs in the house at the same time.
Then have a fecal sample checked, because whipworms are common in dogs and pyrantel does not kill them.
Dosage depends on the concentration you are using.

Nemex is the dewormer that we use at the rescue, for our new puppies and kittens.
Other than that, it really all depends on what TYPE of worms you are trying to prevent/get rid of.
Going to a veterinarian, they can determine the type your puppy has (if he has any), and suggest a dewormer for prevention.

The best one I have found is Nemex. ( Actually, Nemex is Strongid, but strongid is packaged 10 times stronger for horses) You can ask at your pet supply, and they will know which one is best that they carry.
Remember that it needs given 3 times, 2 weeks apart.

You want to give your puppy a proper dose of safe guard. Weigh your puppy if your puppy is under 5lbs give them 1 cc of safe guard everyday after they eat for three days, if your puppy in between 6lbs and 20lbs give your puppy 2 cc of safe guard for three days after your puppy eats, and if your puppy weight more than 20lbs that give your puppy 3 cc of safe guard for three days after your puppy eats!

Garlic in his food. Saute some and put the resulting oil in his food. Use macadamia nut oil or olive oil if you can.
