I read that less than half a percent of Japan know anything about Christ beyond his name. There is one Christian village in the far north, and the main attraction there is Jesus' grave, next to his brother's Agayasoku, or something. Which begs the question, is hell full of Japanese people, and why would God do that?

Just a point to add to number 22's argumetn there: doesn't it say "I am the way, the truth and the life, there is no way to the father but through me (excludes 98% of the japanese (at least according to someone else here)).

Hmm interesting...I am Japanese too, and I do not follow any particular beliefs. I think, especially in Japan, people do not really have any time or psychological room for anything beyond their daily life, to consider any hardcore religion worshipping.

What is believe to be Japense religion, Shinto, is yes, indeed the popular japanese religion officially, but it is more like a ritual, or a part of a culture (which is getting outdated especially in the cities) that becomes part of their daily life and/or philosophy: a code of conduct. Plus they have their own concept of 'graves', as each family has an obligation to carry on and protect the family grave that will pass to generation after generation. Also historically, there has been a period when christianity was banned from Japan entirely; one was prosecuted or punished by law greatly for being a Christian.

I wouldn't say these will validate why majority of Japanese population do not follow Christianity, solely.

No, i am sick of every religion trying to be the RIGHT ONE.
Look i believe that everyone should be allowed the chance to have everlasting life, not because of who they are affiliated with but because of who they are as a person, how many good deeds they performed in their lifetime, how self-less and loving they were. If this were the case(and i hope it is) then many Japanese people have a better chance of getting into heaven or wherever spirits go than dumb people who judge too much like you.

There is a second resurrection for all those who have not heard of Jesus to have a chance to live by His ways.
Hell in the concordance and encyclopedia 11th edition says Hell means ( the Grave ) if one would read thier bible one could see this very clearly instead of listening to the traditions of men.

Religion is a concept created by man to do one of two things: A. Explain the working of the universe in pre-scientific times. This has mostly gone by the wayside now although certain religious groups are trying their best to suppress education so that we can slide back into a second dark age. B. Gain power and wealth by controlling people through their feelings of guilt. The more guilty you can make them feel, the more they will let you control them. The Abrahamic religions are especially bad in this respect.

Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. The statistic is something like 2% of Japanese are Christians. No one goes to Hell because of ethnicity.

For God so loved the world (That includes the Japanese.) that He sent His Only Begotten Son that whosoever (Includes Japanese.) believes in Him will not perish & instead will have everlasting life. Jesus said, "I AM the Way, Truth & Life...". It is God's will that none should perish and all would come to Him in repentence, confession & faith, and have everlasting life. Hell was made for the Devil and His Messengers.

I'm not sure Japanese people would care that they were in hell or even know! They would just be sitting there with their ipod turned up to full volume with their eyes closed, nodding their head to the music.

It tells you in the bible that only those who have the opportunity to know his name, and his teachings are 'liable' for not believing.

Otherwise, there are a lot of third world countries going to hell.

There are stipulations with everything...even in the bible.....especially one controlled by the Roman Catholic Church for such a long time.

No, I don't believe that Japanese people are going to hell. I think they are managing quite nicely without Christianity and I don't wish it on them.
