Why do christians want to make it against the law to do things they have religious problems with? Why do you want to restict the freedoms of people? Why force your religion on others? Why would a gay marriage effect you personally? Better way to sum it up, why can't you mind your own life, and practice your religion, and leave us out of it?

Some people need to feel superior, despite parts of their religion that say "judge not . . ."

Some people have been taught to be bigoted, or racist, or discriminatory, or homophobic in their upbringing. So you could blame the parents and their warped interpretation of their religious beliefs.

I think the strongest reason is that sometimes people forget that we have a country that is founded on the separation of church and state, and that laws should not have any religious basis or favor any one particular religion.
Actually, if I had my choice of any religion to pattern laws after, I'd pick buddhism, since those folks seem to be the kindest and most giving people I have met.

Apparently, since Bush is the President, and he is also a Christian, that must mean that every single Christian in this country believes the same thing he does....... or not.

Everything you're saying is so completely ignorant. It's like you have diarrhea of the mouth. Have you met every single Christian in this country? I highly doubt it. And even IF SOMEHOW you MIRACULOUSLY have, I doubt even more that you asked every single one of them their views on gay marriage. So maybe you should do a little research before you start rambling.

Everyone has different views on things, no matter if they are part of the same religion or not. I am a Christian. So just because of that, does that mean that I push my religion on people? No. And does it also mean that I am not OK with gay marriage??...... no. Just because I am a Christian, does not mean that I believe in the same things Bush does. I am completely OK with gay marriage, this is not a Christian society, and this is not a Christian country. This is a "free" country, where people come to live and be able to believe and practice what they want. And if marrying someone of the same sex is going to enable that person live a happy and fulfilling life, please do that!

And just because SOME Christians try to force their religion on other people, does not mean we all do. All they're trying to do is what they feel and believe is right. Get over it!

What sucks about this whole thing... is ignorant *** people like you who classify tons of people into one catagory like we're all the same. Maybe you need to evaluate YOURself, before you start evaluating other people. Then, when you are ready to judge other people, hopefully you'll have the knowledge and the maturity to do so, becuase you sure as hell don't right now.

I would be glad to stay out of the life of gay people. This issue has become prominent because homosexuals have not kept their personal lives in the closet. When was the last time you heard of a “Straight Parade”? or hetero-pride? There haven’t been any parades for Christians only. The reason is that we don’t define our lives by our sexual preference.

Straight Christians are not lobbying for special rights just because we are heterosexual.

Homosexuals are a very small minority in our society, but they make a lot of noise. So, if you don’t want others looking at you or opposing you, then shut up and stop drawing attention to yourselves. You are bringing the scrutiny on yourself.

Get this straight, there has not been an attempt to make gay marriage illegal; it never has been legal. The proposed legislation was to clarify what would constitute a legal marriage. If gay marriage was illegal, it would put too much strain on our prison system, because it would be a crime.

Wake up and get it right.

First, Don't Judge everyone by what some does, you wouldn't like to be judge by what some of your people do! Would you!?

TO answer your questions. I know you dislike Christians and Muslims, but that is unfair to dump your feeling on some over everyone else. Christians don't make it against the Law, it is what is required of one to do or not to do. It is up to the one to decide to chose their path, hopefully the correct one. Freedom of people! forcing their religion on other! or gay marriages! Muslims do the same as wel as the Jews. It is against the religion for all three for gay marriages. Yet, Christians do not stone people to death for being gay. Look around the middle east or any muslim country and find one country that permit gay marriages! you will not find any of them.

You seem to be a strong welled person. You have the ability to tell those who are forcing their belief one you to leave you alone. You don't have to feel weak or afraid that someone wants to teach you their faith. If you don't like it, just say NO. It is that easy, no one will stone you, bother you, or force you to convert, or even respect anyone else. It is all up to you. ALL in your power. From my end, I don't preach, ever forced anyone to convert, or will force by belief on anyone. Religion is a personal thind, if you are not willling to take with full heart, then it is not faith, only empty identity. Live you life as you wish, and let others live theirs.

Peace to all, Inculding Jews, Christians, Muslims, Atheist, Agnositics, Hindus, Buddist, all living life ALL

I wasn't gonna answer this question, because I don't know the actual reason why so called christians do the many things they do. What prompted me to respond is one of the answerers who is completely wrong.
To clarify:

Gay marriage is not and has NEVER been illegal in the United States

There isn't a state in the union that gay people can't go into a church that performs this service for them and take part in a ritual binding ceremony CALLED marriage.

This "fight" that is currently going on in our society isn't about gay people getting married. They have been doing that for quite some time. This fight is for the same legal rights and protections that straight people get by registering their union with the state they live in.

You cannot stop it from going on. Nobody can. You may, for a time, stop equality from happening, but you will never stop gay people from pledging to love, honor, and respect each other until death do they part.

You should be ashamed for even trying to act like this issue is about gay marriage being "allowed" or not. It has been and will always be allowed.

Sometimes things that Christians wish to restrict are seen as protective, take abortion Christians on both sides see them selves as protecting the rights of others. As for gay marriage, many see this as the state sanctioning a behavior they believe wrong. They don't believe sexual orientation is innate and therefore do not see a civil rights connection. In addition i might add that a lot of the state's interest in marriage has to do with legitimizing children not a concern in same sex relationships. Personally I would recommend a compromise involving some different name for the gay version out of respect for the religous practices of those for whom marriage is a sacrament and to take the issue out of the political realm and into the personal where witness can create real change.

That's exactly what I wanted to ask!By making gay marriage illegal they are taking away our rights as Americans. They say that we are allowed to practice or own religion as long as it doesn't take away the rights of others! And that is exactly what George Bush and people against gay marriage, and gay people in all are doing.I'm personally not gay,but support it 100%!Every body has the right to gay marriage by right and the government is taking it away because people "don't like it".They should make Christianity illegal to see how they like it.This land is messed up,and what it needs is a leader that actually cares for this land and it's people. Not like George Bush, who is nothing but a hypocrite and a war for no reason starter!

Where do you stop, child porn, what age?? If all morality is to be thrown out, where do you stop?? The political party in Holland that wants to legalize all child porn, they know they won't win now, but eventually in a couple of years they hope to do so.
Your logic is based in evolution and the belief that you have evolved from a monkey, and the Christian logic is based on the idea that Christians are made in the image of God himself and subject to being higher and more intelligent than the animals. These both are in a direct conflict and your concept has a great effect on the lives of Christians and the way they raise their children. So it is the old story of God vs the monkeys.. no resolution..
What amazes me most of all is how the evolutionists can not seem to link the destruction of America, drug addiction, violence, break down of family, and the list goes on, America is literally falling apart and you can't see it.

You know you will only hurt yourself in the long run! Who is bringing you in to it ? Only you yourself! If you really dislike Religion that much what draws you to it so much all the time? You make no sense! Who is really forcing the issue here apart from you?
