A squirt of water in the face with a water pistol is effective if you catch her in the act of the offense.
My cat never goes on the kitchen counters or kitchen table because when he was a kitten he learned that it was a very unpleasant place to be.

It would help if you provide some more details on how she is misbehaving and what her age is. Kittens ALWAYS misbehave. The best punishment for a misbehaving cat is to ignore them, but it really depends on what they are doing and if you are able to associate the bad behavior with the punishment. For example, if a kitten starts biting your hands, you get up an walk away or let your hand "play dead". It stops all the fun. But if your cat is knocking your priceless Ming Dynasty vase off of a shelf, ignoring it is not going to work!

In general, the best overall remedy for misbehaving kitties is play therapy. Sometimes kitty is just bored or feels unattended to. Playing with your cat for 15 minutes a day, twice a day does wonders! Interactive toys are the best. Get a fishing pole toy like "Da Bird" http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=11643&N=2002+113121 . Play with your cat until she is laying on her side panting! Trust me, she will be too exhausted to misbehave and she will be very appreciative to you for the extra special attention. Good luck!

It depends on how your cat misbehaves. I used to fight with my cat about being on the table. My cat thought it was fine, and I didn't. I tried spraying him with water, but it only made him mad. He looked so funny giving me a dirty look with water dripping off his face. Eventually I had to move the table. Now, I have a 4 year old feral cat that is having difficulty not biting me. The most effective thing I've found is to withdraw affection. That's the greatest punishment I can give him and it does affect his behavior.

You shouldn't take the cat's toys away. When my cat misbehaves, I normally scold him or give him a mild smack across the nose. It works on my own cat perfectly. But your cat is probably different than mine so, there is no certainty that my method will work on her.

cats misbehave for a reason. what is she doing? how old is she?she is not a child that can reason. taking toys away will not do anything. giving her more attention will make her want to please you. cats are almost untrainable. putting sticky double sided tape on counters or where ever she is forbidden to climb will stop that problem. they hate anything sticky. put water (only) in a spray bottle and spray her lightly if you catch her scratching or eating plants or climbing up your drapes. get some good catnip to calm her down. cats will urinate outside of their litterbox if it is not cleaned often. if they are sick they will urinate sometimes right in front of you to give you the message. if she is young and an indoor cat she will need to let out some energy. my cats will pounce on me at night if they want to go out. they will eat plants and some can be poisinous. you could grow actual grass in a shallow pan for her to eat indoors. they also have cat food for hairballs(though they should have the medicine without food to work properly). they are very curious and mischievious. they will lay on your paper while you are reading it. stick their noses in your food. jump on your keyboard. knock things in your wastebasket from the counter. my cats will jump on my table and just knock off whatever they can. clip their nails if they scratch your furniture. your vet can do this if you can't. do dot cut to clse to the paw. only the clear tip. they like to sleep off the floor often up high for safety. put a bed or blanket where they can feel safe. remember cats own you you don't own them. be patient and share your house. give lots of love and attention and talk to them. they like to hear your soothing voice. i hope this helps. good luck-julie

Spray bottle with water in it works well. It is non violent. Will get the point after just a few squirtings. My cats respond well to this.

My cats are usually naughty when they aren't getting enough attention. I usually use a sharp no and a clap of the hands to get attention. A small squirt gun to give them a small but effective spray of water also helps a lot.

depends on what she is doing? Cats often "behave badly" if there is stress in house or health problems. is it a natural cat behavior that is occurring in the wrong place? IE scratching on furniture?
