Genesis
In that story we are led to believe that there was a single god who created the earth, etc. in 6 days.
At the time that the Genesis story was supposed to have been written the Hebrew people were not monotheistic.
They believed in many gods.
The story actually goes back to before the Hebrews were a distinct people. It is not Hebrew in origin.
At the time of this writing, was not monothestic, but rather, polytheistic.
Here is the translation of the Hebrew text of Genesis 1:1
The translation reads 'let us make man in our image".

The Heaven's I believe in this case, is the first Heaven(the Atmosphere around the Planet EARTH) and the second Heaven(the Star System). I use a K.J.V..(it could possibly mean the third Heaven too! don't know for sure)

Like this, In the beginning (before there was an earth or anything else you can see) God (the supremem being/spirit) created (made) the heavens (the sky, planets, outer space, etc.) and the earth (the place we live, the world).

love the religious questions....personally im more of a wiccan/pagan.however i try very hard to learn and absorb as much as possible of all religions so i do know the bible and much of its content. there are many ways that this is interpreted for some its exactly what it says and for others its deeper.some believe that it is in reference to a higher "astral plane existence" and the the world as we know it existed along with it combining evolution with religious existence and that when adam and eve were cast out they were sent "HERE" with us. according to some christian teaching the world that god created with adam and eve is mearly 6000yrs old.....well science has completely disproven that. making the "gods creation" a situation where god was watching evolution and thought if nature was that wonderful how amazing could his creations be therefore he created adam and eve (some think that lilith was actually first you can read more about that in "THE BOOKS OF LILITH")and in creating them he had to create a place for us to go when we were in between lives or died whatever your believe...the interpretations of this verse as well as every other one are endless.i could go on for ever about religious theory but ill end there...interested in more contact me.

I am taking a theology class and it means just that. If you are of the though that the Bible is God's inerrant word, it means that God created everything and still has a hand in all creation.

I believe that, well... there was this time called the "Beginning" when things "Began" and God created on thing called "the heavens" and another thing called "the earth."
That quote, to me, is the one that is the easiest of all to interpret!
