When i was young i loved it.
But in the summer of 1985, it seemed like every second airplane that went up came down in a ball of flame.
I was in New York in August of that year, doing the tourist thing, and in a garbage can out in front of the Empire State Building i saw a discarded newspaper, and on the front page was coverage of the crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123 into Mount Takamagahara, killing 520 people. The tail fell off in flight, and all but 4 people on board were killed when it hit the mountain.
From that moment i was afraid to fly. And i probably always will be.

Engines fall off?
When is the last time an engine fell off an aircraft?
I'm sure it happened, but not within the last 30 years or so.

if the engine falls off, your in deep s h i p. What is very important about the design of an aircraft is where the things center of gravity is. Take a couple hundred pounds off the nose and you wont even glide to landing.

Twenty years as a Helicopter crewman including several hard landings and many in flight emergencies and what do I miss most since I have retired? Flying. Its addictive and exhilarating, there is no better form of transportation. If we could fly our cars...

If the landing is so hard that an engine "falls off", what would keep the fuselage (passenger cabin) intact?
Trust your airline captain --safe, reliable -- to keep the aircraft in good shape, as well as his own hide.

Flying is awesome, I hope to become an airline pilot one day. The engines are fixed on very tightly, they won't fall off.

When the engines seem to fall off at landing, its actually reverse thrust. It's perfectly normal. When i first saw that i thought we were gonna crash.

I don't hate flying once I am in the air. I do hate taking off, and the fact my ears get so stuffed up.
