Well, I don't know about Maine, but I do have a word of caution for you. As an avid canoeist for 40 years, I believe that there is no such thing as a cheap or free canoe that is decent. To explain, anything that is cheap or free might not be very sound, and could in fact be a hazard to use. Personally, I would be very dubious about any canoe that was cheap or free, and if you are not a good fixer-upper type, then this will likely end in calamity for you. Save your money, and go out and buy a decent canoe and you will be rewarded every time you put your little pointy craft into the water. I will drop a few name for you, but there are many so choose the boat that meets your needs:
Old Town, Wenonah, Clipper, etc. Good luck and remember to wear a PFD, carry a spare paddle and a bailing bucket. Good Luck and happy paddling.
