Tikka masala is when you use when the veg/meat is cooked on a stick, ie, it has to be finely grinded, to adhere to the limited space on the rounded surface.

Tarka masala is similar ingredients,but grinded lesser,and used even for curries, chutneys,and spreading.

Its 'Tikka Masala' and you can make it out of anything. The tikka can be made out of anything. So it just doesn't matter.

you can get tarka dhal I think so its probably just marinated in different spices and cooked in the same gravy.
