There is a special box you can fit to the recorder which is aimed at deaf people. Try http://www.rnid.org.uk/shop/products/video/ this is a link to a Royal National Institution for the Deaf site with video recorders that will do the job for you.

My wife is deaf and records subtitles all the time, just make sure that 888 and it should record we don't have a special recorder, but there are a few around however they are no longer making them so they are becoming rare so you may find it hard to get one, so why not just use DVD's and get a dvd recorder most dvd's have subtitles on.

U have to buy a special box and fit it to your video recorder. Apparently the Panasonic NVF-J710 does this. Rare though!
