My cat still does this. I could be that the box isn't big enough for him, but more likely than not, he's cleaning his paws off. I recommend pulling the box away from the wall and putting a litter mat or something under it. I have a paper grocery bag under my cat's box, and she has been scratching at the box less since I started using it.

This is very normal, and your litter box is perfect sized..
cats are very funny and very unique..
My 5 yr old tabby Male is the only cat in the house, has a large covered litter box and does the same scratching habit as your kitten..
sometimes he will walk away and scratch elsewhere when he is done using his box..
I wouldnt worry about it, your little kitty is fine and will use the box to do its business..
I would suggest getting a scratching post and putting near the box, just in case it wants to scratch other items in the house..

Move the box away from the wall or put a piece of old carpet on the wall where he scratches. Just be happy that he uses the litter box. I had a cat who used it, and the floor.

Every kitten, that I have ever had, did the same thing. See, kittens know or, more like, have an instinct to cover "it" up. But they are not sure what, where and how. They usually figure it out later on their own, or, like in my case, my kitten sees my older cat do it and repeats after her. If you think that it smells worse when he does not cover it, put some baking soda in the litter box, and "fridge fresh" baking soda box beside the litter box.

my cat uses the litter box, does not cover anything up - jumps out and scratches the carpet - I don't know why - i even got a bigger box & it did not help - cats are confused or confusing and have their own weird ways - try putting a board with carpet between the cat box & wall then cat can scratch carpet on the board

hi, I propose a clutter container for each cat. sometimes one cat won't permit yet another on the factor of it so they flow next to it. additionally some do choose their very own. As for varieties of clutter - i exploit the crystals for my 4 cats. I scoop primary and alter the trays while a great sort of the clutter turns yellow ( that's the urine absorbed). there is little or no odour. I additionally use lined clutter packing containers. This additionally makes particular the clutter isnt kicked out around the container. Clay clutter smells the worst- moist clay is undesirable adequate, yet upload cat urine, etc makes it worse. Clumping could reason inner problems if the clutter is ingested - eg while kitten cleans clutter off paws - because it will boost by making use of 60%. The pellets created from recycled newspaper doesnt scent very lots, could be scooped and (the scooped bits) could be flushed down lavatory. yet another one we use interior the cattery for the kittens is layers pellets - works out very low-value, and the bits could be flushed. For the main significant cattery, so as a result the grownup cats, we use shredded newspaper (some newspaper sheets are laid on the backside of tray). they are replaced primary - sometimes two times an afternoon if one cat has an truly pungent ****

Most cats do that after they go to the bathroom....it's very common behavior, but he should also be covering his feces after he goes...if he isn't, just follow him to the litter box next time and after he goes take his paw and move it so that he covers it with litter...I've had to do that with kittens before....they just need to be shown how....it only takes once or twice...they catch on quickly.

My 13 year old cat does that too. Although he eventually buries it. Try taking the kitten's paw, and show it what to do a few times - that's how I trained all my cats to open a door that's closed but not quite latched. Be very gentle.
