Something you've put thought and time into. Perfume, trinket box, jewelry...etc
It really depends on how serious the two of you are. Naturally, you won't want to spend a fortune on just a friend . Find out what she likes and go from there. I always like a guy putting together a gift basket for me w/ candles, bath oils or what ever! If there is more thought and time put in to a gift, it means A LOT MORE!!!

I love it when my husband just takes me to the mall and let's me pick out whatever I want! But...if you want to surprise her... I think the ticket to really great gift giving is....to just pay ATTENTION during the "off season." Really clue it to what she says way before Valentines Day, anniversaries, and Christmas. Women tend to just chatter when we shop. We say things like, "Oh my gosh that is so cute!" and "Check this out!" Take notes...and when the big gift giving events roll around....voila...she will be a happy girl. And we all know that when the princess is happy....everyone is happy!

think of a time when you guys did something really cool together. get a gift that reminds her of that. plus flowers, those are always awinner. not generic roses, but lilies, or daisies. something sweet.

something sweet and personal, like a necklace, a scarf (how confident are you?) a nice cd, a night at the movies, a dinner at a nice restaurant, a massage....
