Sweetie, you can be reasonably sure there were atheists before Woodstock. Well before.

No, my little dear, atheism definitely did NOT get it's start at Woodstock. You saw a movie and you think you know everything there is to know about hippies, PLEASE!! I wonder if your own generation could gather that way by the thousands at a rock concert, and not have any violence, and leave the place cleaner than when you got there? I seriously doubt it!
Oh, and did you know? Alot of those "hippies" were known as "Jesus People" or even "Jesus Freaks". Another widely used term for hippies was "Flower Children". How do I know this? Why, my sweet child, I AM one of them. Yes, we are still around, Hun.
Rough times? Yeah, there was a war going on. But then, when isn't there a war going on? Where, oh, where are the kids in this generation who ought to be out there protesting this stupidity in Iraq? Is there no courage in this generation, or is it that they just don't care?
I am very glad that you have such a happy family life. That is good, especially in an age when there is such a rabid attack on healthy family life. Go back and watch some of those old television programs...you know, Leave It To Beaver, Dennis The Menace, My Three Sons, The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family...and compare them with some of today's television...be prepared to weep.
So where did atheists begin? I don't know, Hun. They've been around for a very long time. Some of them are very nice, reasonable, loving people. As a Christian, I wish I could reach them and help them to separate what is physical from what is spiritual...

You have opened a can of worms child. Woodstock was more of a spiritual event than any church service you will ever go to. The nonsense people must have fed you, the rebellion was against MAN MADE, ORGANISED RELIGIONS. Answer me this, how can a mere man interpret the word of god. If the Pope was infallible, how come he got shot? Hendrix was left handed, as were some of the disciples of Christ. We did try to love the world and what happened, GUNNED DOWN BY NIXON'S ARMY IN OHIO, wasted in Vietnam, trodden down by evil corporate empires, and finally The Anti-Christ sits in the White House.

No- history goes back much further than Woodstock. Socrates was an Atheist--and Plato was Agnostic at best.
Furthermore, my guess would be the 85% Plus of Woodstock attendees are not and were not Atheists.

The Christian Right, in their never-ending quest to make everyone Christian, has unleashed an unparalleled slew of efforts aimed at Christianizing the country. On top of legislation, constitutional amendments, and publicity, the religious right have engaged an a war of words and slander against their greatest enemy: the logic and common sense of atheism. The Bible goes so far as to forbid contact with atheists (2 Corinthians 6:14), thereby stemming debate and preventing the incursion of logical, non-religious ideas entering the flock. Similar behavior is seen in religious cults, where new members are not even allowed to contact non-cult family members.
........, atheists are vilified as anarchistic and evil anti-religionists, who want nothing more than to rob other people of their right to practice their beliefs. Only a small portion of atheists are open (out of the closet) about their atheism, and as a result we are viewed as a much smaller percentage of the population than we really are. In other words, the legislators are paying less attention to us than they should.

You've got to be kidding....atheists have been around for centuries. Obviously you are a kid, you haven't even learned to spell yet. You don't even make sense..."...I pray a smile and happiness plague on everyone with no sign of any cure..."
What kind of bullsh*t is THAT??? YOU are the plague.

Empedocles was accused of being an atheos around 500 years BEFORE Jesus was born... Does that give you a clue? As you can see, sometimes what you believe is far from being the truth. Making assumptions leads, sooner or later, to make mistakes.
Hapiness is an option that has nothing to do with faith.

I think hippies were about 'love everything', not 'everything sucks'... but I might have watched the edited-for-TV version of the Woodstock film...
Atheism has a long and proud history. It's certainly not 40 years old.

No, Atheism existed LONG before woodstock, it may have gained increased popularity since the 60's but popularity and starting points are different things.

Atheists have been around since organized religion.
It probably got its roots from the Crusades (or even earlier) with Christianity being shoved down everyone's throats and, sometimes, they would slice open someone's throat just to make sure that it fit.
You can't force someone to believe, period.
