according to the Five books of Moses is through a blood sacrifice?

Where does it say this is the only way?

Do Christians know that sacrifices all but ended with the destruction of the first Temple (before Jesus was born)?

Think you need to do a little more research. Your answer is seriously flawed. Priests went into the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur to say a prayer. Not a Rabbi. A Sadducee and a Pharisee are radically different and vehemently disagree. The string you mention came about much later and for very different reasons. Look it up it is actually very interesting.

Yes, we do believe that only the blood of Christ could wash away the sins of the world. There were other ways to atone, you are correct.

Melchizedek offered bread. You could even say Moses asked the people to atone on the night of passover by eating the sacrificial lamb.

But all these distinct acts of sacrifice relate to the sacrifice of Christ. Jesus said that his body and blood would be true food and true drink offered to give us life. It is similar to the offering of bread. Jesus is called the Lamb of God who was sacrificed. And just as Moses had the Jews eat the lamb to live, we eat Jesus the Lamb of God. As John 6 says, we have life in us when we partake of His flesh. His flesh and blood were offered for the sin of the world. It is not for me to say that Christ was wrong in enacting a blood sacrifice to redeem the sins of the world. It was never done prior. So while there are similarities to sacrifices in the Hebrew Scriptures there was also no precedent set for the degree to which Jesus atoned for sins.

From my personal knowledge, the blood sacrifices were replaced by a ritualised cleansing. The priest would go into the specially prepared room to talk to God and if he didn't spend the proper time cleansing himself God would strike him dead, during this meeting, the rabbi would go into the room and bring the sins of the individuals in to be forgiven. The rabbi had a younger member of the church tie a string to him so that if he was struck dead because of a mistake, the body could be pulled out.

And that was one of the ways of the peoples to be cleansed. The death of Jesus replaced all of them, at least from the christian perspective.

There now is only one way to salvation and forgiveness, with each covenant came a different way. The arguement could be made that all covenants are valid.

It started to end before Jesus came (true) and that doesn't change the fact Jesus died to abolish the blood sacrifice. Whether or not they practiced it Jeus had to die to make the practice legitimately closed. The belief in the true word of God the Bible is sure and it doesn't contradict itself, its just understanding that blinds us at times and we should ask for guidance when analyzing the word of God by His sprit the Holy Spirit.

Christians know that the" sacrifice of passover lamb "-----Jesus Himself on the cross is for atonement of all sins. So no animal sacrifices are needed after that.

Christians believe that Jesus is the only atonement necessary and that until then it was animal sacrifice and you can read about all the types and restrictions in Leviticus.

Jesus changed the rules for Christians. Don't get hung up on the Old Testament.
