Baking powder does wonders...just pour it on and it will soak it up then wash with plain soap and water. They have odor removers that you can spray on it after you do the other two things I suggested and it should take care of the problem.

On Ebay, there is a seller that sells the formula you make with 3 items in your home. It's about $6 and is the only thing that worked on my carpets.
Other products either dont work or the cat can still smell it even if you cant.

I'm a Borax fan myself. you can pick it up at your local store.. (Its a powdered laundry soap) Sprinkle it on the area and let it soak up then vacuum... Works wonders for killing flea eggs in the carpet, deodorzing very very smelly things and its an awesome laundry soap...

good old water with some dish soap, then when dry (throughly) you can sprinkle in some baking soda to help with any left over odors.

there is this stuff they sell called hot shot, it is in areosol can, or a spray bottle it gets odor out very good.
