I sit in church services where congregations members repeat what the priest/pastor/rabbi what have you says. They have a monotone voice and seem almost numb in what they are saying. I swear people have no concept of what they are actually repeating out loud most of the time. Even the songs seem kind of robotic without feeling. I just get that feeling a lot.

No, I never had the feeling that I was being brainwashed; I KNEW I was being brainwashed so I left. Why do you think people repeat "praise be to God" in a catholic mass? And most catholics follow their faith so blindly they'll defend it quite strongly. Just look at the next few questions on this thread.

From what I've observed this has less to do with any kind of brainwashing than the general lack of enthusiasm of the congregation. I've attended many services where the crowd displays the atmosphere you describe, but if you find a church with a more enthusiastic congregation you will find that feeling all but vanishes.

you're going to the wrong church. im catholic and there are many churches that i've tried that haven't worked out, either. lately, there are more churches that are more modern and appropriate for younger people. you just have to look around for them. just remember that church isn't supposed to brainwash you....sometimes you have to listen to what the priest is saying and then really analyze it and relate it to yourself. if you still feel like church is brainwashing you, then you should think about whether you really believe in everything the church believes in and is about. if you don't, then im sure it feels like they're trying to brainwash you!

The quiet prayer of the masses and the prayers of solitude may sound unemotional to you, however, in the heart of many it is profound.

You look for emotion. You are driven by emotion. You seek your feelings to give you the answer. Yet your mind is numb to the objective.

You do not even understand the concept of Brainwashing.

You might be going to the wrong church. We don't repeat anything and our preacher is not monotone. It's non-denomination Christian, if you care.

I agree - please visit a different type of church. You could try a non-denominational church.
