Have you had to suffer in order to follow your beliefs?

I am a Christian, so when I was baptised I renounced satan, all his works and and all his empty promises. Also, Christ said that if anyone wants to be His follower, they must renounce themselves, take up their cross and follow Him. It's not completely clear to me what He meant by renouncing myself, but I take it to mean that I put aside purely selfish desires and try and put other people first and think what Christ would have done inmy situation, especially by praying about things.

I suppose I have had to suffer in order to follow Christ, as I get made fun of by some people and twice I had to give up a love affair because it was only going into sex and we couldn't be married and that was hard. However, it never seems difficult in the end because you get all the comfort you need from Jesus and his holy Mother.

What is there to renounce?? Have you ever seen anyone buried with all their posessions?? Why not?? Some of the ancient Egyptians did it and they are uncovered with it all still there for the grave robbers. What is there to renounce that I can really take with me?? We only live a very short time and leave everything here. Only one movie star I know of ever got buried in his car, and I don't think that he did a lot of driving afterwards. I have everything that I need to live, and am not missing a personal jet, or a gold plated cad. I have food, a small home, and a pickup truck (which is what every cowboy wants) What more in this world can I want. Most of all I have the power and presence of the Holy Spirit of God himself and I enjoy my life to the fullest. I am happy and having a good time. I guess I have to confess that Jesus suffered in my place and has blessed me.
One thing that I see here is that one person said that they made up their own religion. Now that is the best if you are not going to be a Christian. Why follow some dry religion that someone else invented, make up your own. Much more intelligent..
Most intelligent is to follow Jesus, but if not??

Religion has so many wrong that we sometime don't see what's around us. I think that no matter who you are and start to do things that other don't understand because they don't feel is necessary to do any more could really be hard I stopped eating pork and I found that it became so hard for other instead of me, just the things people say I wonder if the guilt they are feeling for eating it is the reason they have to make the comment that they do.Plus I have no church.

I use to. In the LDS church they wanted coffee and cigs to fade out of life. Others wanted me to not dance, or not drink a beer or glass of wine. My current religion, None, only renounces things that are bad. Murder, stealing and such. Now I can have a cup of coffee for breakfast, dance at lunch time, wine with dinner. And hey, I still do not murder or steal :)

If practicing your religion doesn't bring hatred from other religions, it is the wrong one.
Jesus said that people would suffer as he did. He said to expect it. Knock...Knock!
If your comfortable in your religion, look around to see what your doing wrong, or not doing at all. There are basic commands you must follow.

As far as I am concerned, the Church, doesn't have the right to make me renounce a thing. I live my life as I deem fitting and proper.
