First off, if you dont get enough "light" into your eyes, you can be depressed.

(Its why people, in the Winter time, are supposed to be around florescent lights so many hours of the day, to avoid depression).

Now, it could be a chemical imbalance in your brain, that could be causing this, so a Doctor should do a thorough work up of your chemistry and see what you may be lacking in your body.

Or, the neurons could be misfiring in your system, and you may need an anti depression pill to counteract the feelings that you have.

My advice, (though, I never played a doctor on TV or stayed at a Holiday Inn :), would be to get outside more, and take long walks. (This relieves stress and depletes chemicals, such as lactic acids that build up in the body and will cause depression), and if you cant do that, then see a Doctor at your earliest convinience and tell him what your symptoms are.

You may want to change your diet, or something in your every day living, to avoid stress, and/or depression. (Yes, it could be enviromentally triggered if you are in a "rut" and cant seem to dig yourself out of it), but, your Doctor will be the best available source on this.

Ask him to give you a treatment plan, and not just to "shove pills down you", so that you can avoid periods of deperession. (You may even want to 'chart' when your depression is more intense during the weeks, or months leading up to your doctors appointment so that you can give him a "heads up" about what may trigger your symptoms...

I wish you well..

Jesse

Wow, that's a terrible state to be in, but cheer up you're not alone! This depression can change to happiness, but you gotta take some steps to get there...and in that suggestion, begin with a full physical, and while you see your phamily physician, explain to him/or her about your depression and ask for a good referral to a therapist if he or she may think, that is even necessary. It's possible something as simple as your diet may be making you feel like this. Well hope that helps a bit, in the meanwhile wishing you a better day for tomorrow!

I always suspect bio-chemical imbalance, myself. For me, the bio-chemical was the hormone insulin. It is so basic to all bodily functions, because it controls how much blood sugar goes where.

The possibility of having high insulin (overproduction) is very high in America and other modern civilizations due to our love of sweet foods - more than just sugar.

Too much insulin may cause a chronic condition called low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. If you have this, without knowing it, your brain may not be getting optimal amounts of blood sugar (its food) and may be reacting by depressing you physically and emotionally, to keep demands on it equal to its level of nourishment.

When you feel depressed, grab a handful of almonds or peanuts and a glass of milk. Or about 2 ounces of cheese and some nuts. Or a hardboiled egg and milk. Any sort of snack that combines protein with good fat is good. About 1/2 hour after eating your snack, if you still feel depressed, eat a small portion of whatever you consider to be "comfort food". For me it is ice cream. This is not a long-term best strategy, but if it gets you out of the cycle of feeling depressed always, it may give you the energy to more fully investigate your bio-chemical situation, and develop a better long-term diet plan.

honey.. there must be something in your life that you are unhappy with.... You may have everything in the world.. cars, $$$, women, men, family, friends, business.... everything monetary. What about spiritual, not religious. But, spiritual! How is your spirit.. high, low, average, "depressing". something in your life is not right. Something in your life you are not satisfied with.

Perhaps not being able to get over the loss of a loved one, not being able to get over the fact you have been hurt so many times... depression is a real diease, with real complications, solutions and real CURES... Take time for yourself, read "yourself" find out what is making you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....uugghhh all the time.

There is hope honey.. seek counseling.... pastor, church friend, crisis hotlines. There is always someone there to help.

As else falls..... fall to your knees crying, screaming,, truthfully, faithfully.. give him your ALL... HE will provide for you!

Depression doesn't necessarily need a trigger. Your brain chemistry may just be out of whack. If you are depressed, it is important to go see someone about it. You can go into couselling, and maybe be put on medication to help balance out your brain chemistry. Depression is not normal, it is a disease and it can be successfully treated. Seeking help is the first step.

You should have your thyroid checked. I was depressed and didn't know why either. I went to my family doctor and explained that I was depressed and had absolutely no reason to be. The first thing she did was check my thyroid levels and found out I had hypothyroidism. Good luck!

don't be ashamed to see a therapist to find out why you're depressed. i'm a chronic depressive, which means that i've always been this way. ALWAYS. i've been seeing a doctor and she put me on celexa last week. we just wanna see if it'll help me not be so irritable. maybe that's something you should look into. it can't hurt.

There are many reasons for your depression. Home life, work demands, parenting, relationships.....and the list could go on and on. For me..I let things build up for years after suffering abuse. And I let that control my life and how I handled or didnt handle things. It took me trying to commit suicide and seeking counseling for me to come to terms with things. I am taking prescribed medications to level things out. It wont make it go away...but it will help you learn how to deal with things. Please see your doctor and ask him to refer you to a good counselor. Good luck.
