Don't go back to smoking....you'll regret it later. Drinking is just as bad especially if you're drinking as much as you say you are. The depression and weight gain won't go away permanently if you go back to smoking. If you're depressed see someone about it and fight the urge to smoke by chewing gum or using the patch...something to keep you're mind off it. I know how you feel I quit smoking 3 years ago cold turkey and it was one of the hardest things I did especially when you're around people that smoke...you can do it. The same thing goes with drinking. If you can't control how much and often you drink maybe its a good idea to just not drink at all. If you want to go out with friends to a bar that's fine but order water or a soda...anything without liquor. The good thing about that is that you get to see all that goes on and remember it in the morning. You can watch the people you're out with and the others at the bar or party make a fool out of themselves. It's good fun. You could also be designated driver which is always a good thing. You don't want people to drink and drive...we all know the implications of that. And a lot of clubs will give you free non-alcoholic drinks if you're a designated driver.

wat does smoking do for you? Makes you unfit, gives you bad skin, could give you lung cancer in the long run among other diseases, there are a lot of bad sides to it. And the good sides? I dont see any. Maybe reduces your appetite a little, your probably putting on weight because you will be eating at times you never used to substitute for smoking.
But drinking can also be equally bad to you, with the damage it does to your liver etc. and if you take to much could end up in bad situations. But if you drink in moderation you can have good times and it livens nites up a little and is sociable. so i think drinking is better out of the two but just be careful and dont start drinking too regularly, ie every day!
I'm guilty of both and have done some pretty stupid things under the influence of drink but still drink to enjoy myself. I quit smoking and am so happy about it! But it was easy for me because i wasn't addicted yet. Find something else to do to occupy you and you won't overeat. Good luck with things!

It's funny that I see this question today because I was just thinking about this yesterday. Everyone has heard all about the dangers of smoking but how many people do you know that have died of cancer? I don't know of any yet I know a ton of people who's lives are destroyed by drinking. I've know two people who have died in alcohol related accidents, at least five people that I know have received DUI's and I know a ton of people who's lives are in complete turmoil because of alcohol. Alcohol abuse is a real devastating problem that I believe is a much greater threat then smoking. IMHO

I'd say they are both bad. Drinking is bad on the liver as well as other organs. Smoking is bad on the lungs as well as other organs. I smoke so I can't tell you to quit or pick it up again, but I don't drink very often. I have known people who have died from smoking as well as drinking. Over time, neither are good for you.

They are both bad habits, however, being drink 3-4 times a week will turn into once a day and you'll be an alcoholic and need rehab. Don't do either, they're both disgusting.

Well first of all you need to figure out WHY your doing this to your body. It's not healhty and only YOU have control. So maybe find a new hobby or something new to do. for example I'm a massage therapist and I have a client who came in 4th place in the womens body building competition in Colorado and she wanted to turn her life around because she was doing coke, drinking and smoking weed. She finally realized that her body might have looked good on the outside but the inside was dieing! So what she did was all the money she used to spend on drugs n alcohol she used for massages, facials, manicures and pedicures! So that she still looked beautiful on the outside but it was also beneficial for her inside to! So what I'm saying is find something new to turn to, DONT do this to yourself your better that that! :)

I successfully quit both by taking Valium for a few months.Try getting a prescription from your doctor but don't go long term on the Valium or you'll just have replaced another problem with a new one.

you should quit both. give yourself weeekends or what ever. dont continue to smoke it will affect your teeth later on and you will have infected gums and rotting teeeth. i would suggest just designating weekends for drinking. join a local town club to keep yourself busy. maybe your town has a local volleyball league or something. keep yourself busy and your options open. youll lose weight too!! God bles and good luck
