Really depends on what you are looking for in your dog. Females simply due to their protective insticts for possible puppies tend to be better watch dogs. They are usually also easier to housetrain as well as train basic commands. I have found that males will be more affectionate, but more on the lazy side and harder to housebreak - especially the leg lifting on the furniture. And then again, within the same breed, the females will be a little smaller than a male, so size may enter into the picture. Just so you know, my dog are all males - just big old (labs) galoots, whose sole purpose in life is to mess up the back yard and love me when I get home.

I think it depends on what you are looking for. If you want to have your dog spayed/neutered, it is much less expensive to have a male dog neutered than a female dog spayed. Also, the recovery time is less for a male because the female has a longer incision.
I have had both male and female dogs, never had any trouble training either one.

I prefer females for the following reasons:
1. Easier to house train
2. More protective of family
3. In working dogs, easier to train & keep their attention...not always looking for a bush to hike on or a fight (typical male!)
4. Generally not as lazy as males

I have a male dog and he's very sweet. Most of the male dogs that my friends and family members have are also very sweet. Depending on the breed, female dogs can be more stubborn than the males.

There's not really any difference. It also has to be remembered that we are animals too and so it may suit us to have the temperment of a girl dog or it may suit us to have something as easily manipulated as a male dog's mentality. Both will be loving and loyal so just decide which of the two sexes- regardless of what species they are- would best suit what's needed.

I have both.( male& female )Males will always mark there terroteries. That means...if you have another male visit you, will most likely have a mess to clean up. Females, will have babbies unless you have them fixed.Hope this will help you dicide. If I were you I would get something small. They are allot easier to take care of and they become your babbies.

we have 2 males and 2 females. Females, if not spayed, need extra TLC when in season. Males, if not neutered, have a distinctive "male odor." Be sure to take this into consideration when choosing your animal.
