I'm concerned about getting a good fit, with all the trim, baseboards etc.

i believe it is made by Safety 1st and it includes a kit to attach to the wall. It has an adjustable and locking mechanism.

also, they make ones that are octagon for sectioned off play area for little ones and their puppies too.

Find one that you can adjust the size on, most newer gates work this way.

One that you have to push the handle down on top to lock and pull up on release it. It'll pressure fit to the walls, day cares use these they work great.

You can place them anywhere on the wall, above base boards, below chair rails etc.

Search for one that is pressure mounted. We have one made by the first years that swings open and automatically closes behind you. There are 4 pressure points that you can screw or unscrew to the appropriate width.

get one of those plastic gates that you could attach to one side of the wall and open and close it like a door, so you wont have to step over it
