It's quite common but it's worth having a vet check your cat out. You may want to switch him/her to a soft food diet if he/she has lost most of the back molars. But unfortunately, cats loose their teeth as they age.

Many cats lose their teeth and there isn't a lot you can do about it if they are older. Is the cat losing teeth because they just fall out or has the vet pulled them out because they are unhealthy teeth? Because if your cats teeth are dropping out and you have not had him checked out you better just go to the vets to be sure there is no underlying gum problems. My dear old cat many years back lost most of her teeth starting from age 7 because she had a bad life before me and not the best diet. But in the end she only had 2 teeth and still had no troubles chewing. I was told to still give her meaty hunks of food and not chop everything up because chewing would keep her gums healthy. She never had a problem with having virtually no teeth and it certainly didn't stop her eating. I would just emphasise the importance of having the vet check out her mouth. But the answer up above that says if your cat loses all the teeth they have to be put down is completely wrong and rubbish so don't worry. Animals and people can survive fine without teeth and cats have strong gums which are as effective as chewing. Adult cats do not grow teeth back however as far as Im aware because one answer said that too. My cat certainly never did!

Nah... cats lose their teeth as they get older, especially the fangs.

So long as the cat is home fed and well cared for, the loss of a few teeth shouldn't cause them much trouble. But I would suggest a trip to the vet and have them checked over just in case.

My cat just turned 13 and had her anual exam by the vet. She has lost many teeth. She can still eat dry food, but I have been feeding her more canned food than I did before. Instead of twice a day, I may give it to her three or four. The vet suggested this anyway; it helps prevent kidney disease to feed her more wet food. Other than the teeth missing, she is healthy and happy.

Cats will eventually loose their teeth when they get older. It is best to take your cat to the vet. When a cat gets older it requires it's teeth to be cleaned. Bad teeth can cause digestive problems and some diseases.

Yes...especially if the breath is very bad. The poor cat could have gum disease. Please take her to the vet ASAP.
My cat had this problem; yet, she kept purring so I thought she was happy. My heart aches every time I think about it and, out of ignorance, how long I waited. She would hide and run away to get away from her own breath. I was soooo ignorant. Please don't wait. Take her to the vet.
Anyway, my cat ended up having many teeth pulled. I cried more than she did. The vet said she did well. Actually, she is much happier; much friendlier; much more playful; she now wants me to rub her belly, etc. She might not chew her food, but she can definately gum it with no problem...and she still gets dry food. Please take your cat to the vet. Dental problems, I learned, are not unusual for cats around 5yrs old.

I have a cat that is 27 and she has lost most of her teeth. She eats right along with the others with no problem...she is a bit overweight so that should tell you that it is no problem.
But at night I like to give her canned food and if your cat seems to be having problems eating then I would switch to moist cat food.

Our cat had all of his teeth removed last year by our vet as he had gingivitis. He eats extremely well on canned food and some dry food. He eats better and more than he did before when he was in pain with his mouth.
Your cat will be just fine I promise you - they adapt very fast.

Well, I'm not a expert in cats, so I suggest you contact the local vet, and see if it is a thing you need to worry about.
