There are many reasons to want to get married... some good, some bad.
A friend of mine had this theory that people were getting married because they were getting bored in their relationship, so they'd decide to get married so that they had something to talk about. And when the excitement of marriage had worn off, they'd move on to make children...
It's obviously a dark way of seeing things but I fear it's often close to the truth.
I want to get married because I consider it a gift to my man, the promise to spend (or at least try!) my whole life with him... the ultimate commitment you can make!

I got married because i loved the person and didnt want anyone else. Think a big reason is to have children and to be faithful. When your single theres a bigger chance of them leaving you but when your married it harder to leave and you have to deal with things more openly. Think this is changing now though because of the high divorce rates. People get married for different reasons, mine was love and still is.

Most people marry out of love. Or to have a partner with which to share life, the good and the bad. Some to settle down, and let their lives calm down. Others to procreate and because that's what tradition tells them they are supposed to do.

The most basic reason for marriage is it is a legally binding contract between two people recognized by the government.

Practical applications of marriage are:
* Income Taxes
* Property ownership
* Medical wishes/insurance
* Joint bank checking/saving accounts
* Child custody

Some of these applications don't come into play until someone gets ill and/or dies.

I would recommend that that you read the King James version of the Bible. It contains the answers to your questions.
God the Father knew you before you we born in eternity past and when you were formed in your mother womb. We are born with a Soul that will live for eternity. We must decide as a free will agent to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior or not.
Our decision determines whether we spend eternity in Heaven or Hell.
I Pray that you make the right decision.
Jesus Christ Loves You.
God Bless you is my prayer.
David

Because people conform to social norms in order to fit in. Being seen as 'normal' is extremely important to most humans. Getting married is one example of this.
