No, you're not a cruel person. A cruel person would reply, "Save a tree and starve a beaver." or "Since when did you start hating termites, you genocidal maniac?"

I don't think you are a cruel person for that. I think people get hooked up in the whole "Save the Rain forest" thing so much, that they start acting protective of all trees. I mean cutting down a few pines here and there is not like your clearing 10,000 acres of rare trees, forcing the rare spotted nosed monkey into extinction. Anyways I think you're right that most of those type people probably don't know anything about the trees and they are just picking one of those issues to have to make it look like they care about global issues.

First you are not a cruel person. Second, its possible that some of those coworkers are lamenting one or two trees being destroyed, but whole woods being destroyed by land developers, which is destroying the homes of several animals. And then they come and try to live in your backyard and fight with your cats. Or else you see six or seven racoonsand who knows how many armidillos a day out on the side of the road, dead.

I personally wouldn't say that you are cruel. You are just realistic. Also I would agree that trees don't live as long as some people think. I'm not for cutting trees down for the sake of cutting down trees, but really if it is done carefully and thought out it can be ok at times.

G-d gave us the resources to use wisely.
It depends what trees you and your co-workers are talking about. Of course we need to cut trees. Do we need to clearcut hillsides so the soil erodes and animals loose their habitats? Do we need to destroy the rain forests, which make so much of our oxygen is made and which hold many medical possibilities? Not to mention the wildlife there.
Of course everything dies. You don't have to be a country girl to know that. So again, is your co-worker talking about just any tree that gets cut, or what I mentioned above. Or maybe some beautiful mature trees that add some beauty in a much needed spot that are getting cut down to add a parking lot?
Just because everything dies, doesn't mean that it doesn't matter what we do with them while they are alive. Just because we do need to cut trees doesn't mean we should do it indiscriminately.
Do I think you are cruel? No, but I think you are ignorant and guilty of a foolish prejudice against people who have a different background than you.

plants and trees are living things, and because of trees were have a constant supply of oxygen and a lot of carbon dioxide is being disolved, plants and trees are taking in carbon dioxide and giving out oxygen, which is the most essential thing for any one to be a live. usless cutting down of plants and trees causes degradation of land ,trees on hill side hold the rocks and earth to gether, we eat of plants and trees get medicine, provide shade you are lucky you have trees deserts are arid because of no trees, dense forest causes heavy rainfall, which inturns keep the rivers supplied with water nature has made it that way every thing depends on every thing,if the trees were felled the global warming would happen rapidly, your office people are evidently are worried about the ecology you should be too, if you want to preserve the natural resoursesof this earth, as for the last part are you cruel, no, its just you donot have sufficient knowledge about and most probably you ae not interested in learning about it.

God loves all trees. All trees are accepted into heaven providing they seek redemption in Jesus. We should only pity the trees who died too young to be baptised.
This is why I use the computer, because I can't bear the thought of the trees that have to die to provide me with paper and pencils...

well, when you would look at it more logically:
Bible and Quran are made from trees. For every 100 pages of useless bibles, one tree died. God created trees to make bibles. In the name of Bible and Quran a lot of innocent people have been killed.
So, by killing trees you save lives. Ergo: you are the sweetest person on earth. Thanks for trying to save lives.

trees are one of the BEST natural RENEWABLE resourse we have! Cut 'em down, they grow right back and man do they smell good when you burn 'em!
Nothing worse than an UN-MANAGED forest! The poor little woodland creatures (which are very yummy) can't live in them, forcing them to live on the streets where they get hit by trucks. (road kill)
Yup, gotta manage the forests and keep cutting and growing, cutting and growing!

Ok - killing trees just because they are going to die one day anyway is like someone wanting to kill you as you are also going to die one way. Do you call that someone cruel?
