Tell him he's wrong this time-- olive oil is about the healthiest kind there is. It's mostly monounsaturated-- unlike vegetable oils which are polyunsaturated.

It depends on what you're using the oil for. If you're making a salad dressing or dipping bread or just drizzling it over food, then Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil is great for you. However if you're cooking with it, like frying, you'll want to use Canola oil because extra virgin olive oil has a low smoke point and will burn if you try to cook with it using high temperatures. Canola oil also contains Omega 3 which is very healthy.
You can also use Light Olive Oil which is 2nd or third pressing to cook with. It has a night smoke point, but the health benefits are diminished.

olive oil according to the hospitals nutritionist. It should be extra virgin olive oil. When they get oil out of olives they first use chemicals to get it out. What you want is oil from the second press the olives are pressed with the chemicals washed off. There are still some chemical residue it the second press but not as much as the first.

Olive Oil. It has the healthy fat in it that helps reduce the bad form of cholesterol! Canola oil does as well.
By the way, my brother had heart bypass surgery two weeks ago, and he was told to use only olive oil by the cardio-dietitian!

Olive for sure. I use to use vegatable oil for EVERYTHING. Now, I only use that for frying (which isn't really good anyways). I use olive oil for saute / baking / dipping. There are different kinds of olive oil. Some are for salad dressings and others for cooking. Some bottles will tell you what it is best for.

We recommend three oils for the pantry. These, along with a little shortening (we rarely use shortening because of the hydrogenated fat), butter, and vegetable oil in aerosol cans, should meet nearly all of your cooking needs. These three oils are olive oil, peanut oil, and canola oil.
