poisoned by his biological mother recently. She's been putting liquid dish soap in his mouth which cannot only poison a child but make them dehydrated by having to poop all the time. What we want to make sure of is that he's NOT being poisoned. My husband said that she uses either Palmolive or No Name brand dish soaps. Are these poisonous to a child? After finding this out, we are taking her to court for custody.

My mother in law was trying to wash his hands yesterday, and when she grabbed the dish soap, he said 'not in my mouth gramma' and she asked him who did that to him and he said 'my mommy'

Also, my step-son is only 4 years old. He doesn't curse or say bad words. And I know that liquid dish soap can make people sick as it did to me when I was young. Kinda harsh to make your own child sick because you want to punish them isn't it?

Yes they are poisonous to a child. No one should ingest soap. How is it that you suspect he is being poisoned. You will have to have solid proof before taking her to court for custody otherwise she can sue you for defamation of character (lying about her which in turn damages her reputation). Talk to a lawyer and he can suggest a way to go which might include reporting the suspected abuse to child welfare or to the police and they might launch an investigation.

I don't know why your husbands just doesn't go over and talk to his ex wife about this incident. Sounds to me like you are wanting to find any reason to drag the ex into court. Its going to cost you two a lot of money, for what? To discuss disciplining your child by soap? I have heard both the hot sauce & soap being used for potty mouth. Actually my ex husbands wife used to use it on my kids. I don't think it worked then. Its pretty common. I never used it but my kids at now 15/16 using the F word daily. Maybe I should start using soap on them now!
I would have the father talk to the mother and come to am agreement over the sons potty mouth. There must be some kind of valid reason for her to be doing this. And a custody fight it going to affect the child for life. Imagine the guilty the son is going to feel after he realizes because he used some bad words, his dad is taking him away from the mother?
I think that is more abusive then the soap!

I got soap in my mouth when I said bad things, to "wash your mouth out". As long as he isn't swallowing it and it gets rinsed out all the way, I don't see anything wrong with it. It's really a very common punishment for children saying nasty things. You really don't want to say that again after getting a mouth of soap. It worked for me!
P.S. It is complete crap that you can't do ANYTHING these days to punish your children. Giving a spanking is not a beating, and it is not child abuse. Putting soap in a child's mouth to stop them from saying bad words is not poisoning, and IT is not child abuse. It's called discipline, and if more people gave their children a little discipline, society would probably nto be so degraded today.
By the way, there was many a time I knew I had been bad and I once said to my mom in the store, "Don't beat me!" because I had been making a mess, knew I was doing something wrong, didn't want a spanking, and didn't know another word than "beat". If your stepson had recently said something bad, it would not be out of the ordinary for him to except a mouthful of soap when his grandma picked up the bottle, and to protest it. Protest does not necessarily mean abuse.

I think you and your husband are just trying to find a way to get custody but I do not think this will work. Lots of parents put soap in their kids mouths I know I did and my kids are all healthy . Ask my daughter she spent the better part of being 10 and 11 with a bar of soap sticking out of her mouth. She is 19 now and unharmed. Get over it.

Dish soap is poisonous to children and adults. If you want to make sure he's not being poisoned, take him to a doctor. You'd better have some medical proof before you go to court.

Well it would be posionous if countiued on daily basis. But FYI it is child abuse in my state (NY) I found this out only because i used to use Hot sauce in my kids mouths for talking back or swearing, and My sons School resorce officer told us that using anything thease days is abuse, so we stoped. and yes report her then. Hope all works out for you!!
And to think we were useing a food based product! And that is abuse.

Take her to court as soon as possible. The mother may doing more than just the dish soap. You need to find concrete evidence that the mom is doing this to her son.How old is the son?If he is of talking age maybe you can sit down and have a chat..or maybe bring it up with the mom.
