I do not mean to offend but the Pentacostal Church is borderline cult...The Holy Spirit manifest itself in differant ways according to the Gifts given to each, yet the Pentacostal Church teaches you MUST speak in tongues or you have not recieved the Holy Spirit therefore cannot enter Heaven... I also have found their church to be quite chaotic and chaos is not of God, order is of God.

The Holy Ghost is misunderstood a lot and the baptism of the Holy Sprit is even misunderstood to a higher degree. One thing you have to realize is that you can be a Christian and not have the power of the baptism. When you are born again (accept Jesus as your savior), you have the Holy Sprit like a well spring up inside of you for your daily life. If you want more, you will need the baptism of the Holy Sprit. The more is usually for ministry. You don't have to be part of the 5 fold Ministry to ministry to others. Like Jesus told the woman at the well, It will be like a river flowing from your belly. You need to distinguish between personal (spring) and ministry(river). I meet Pastors and Ministers that don't know the difference. So how are their congregations going to know. You can only teach what you know. Reread what the Word of God has to say about the gift of Tongues. Determine, in each instance, if He is talking about ministry or personal.
A man named Kenneth E Hagin wrote a book that does a great job of explaining it. The book was simple called " The Baptism of the Holy Sprit", He had another one called, "The Believers Authority". Oh yes, you need to have a relationship with the Holy Sprit before you can get revelation on the word of God or life.

I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit several years ago. There are so many misguided, and just plain wrong teachings about this event. I don't believe that speaking in tongues is the only proof of baptism, although I did receive mine years later.
The bible says in Acts. 2v3and tongues of fire appeared over them and they v4 were filled with the Holy Ghost and began to give utterances in other languages. This refers to the the day of Pentecost, when Christ had went back to heaven after his resurrection, and sent the Holy Ghost as He promised he would.
When you saved you receive Jesus in your heart, you receive the Father Son and Holy Spirit at the same time. But and here's where so many teachings change.... When you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you are indwelt with powerful living.
Its like having a pilot light on a gas stove. you can see it and know that it is there but when you turn up the knob, the turn power of what it can do is truly shown.
I encourage you to talk to your pastor or teacher or parents, and read the Word about the Holy Spirit. He will teach you and open your eyes for understanding. God bless you.

To truly "Get the Holy Ghost" is a life altering event. The Holy Ghost (or Holy Spirit) is the presence of God coming on the inside of a person to give them strength to live the way Jesus taught. It results from a true surrender to Jesus Christ and is not just a feeling. Some people confuse the experience of feeling the presence of God with receiving the Holy Spirit. If you have asked Jesus Christ to be your Savior, then the Holy Spirit wants to come into your life and be your Helper and Guide and Teacher. Ask God to fill you and lead you to people who can help you to learn what the Bible teaches.

Many years ago, I took a course called "Life in the Spirit". I was and continue to be a semi-active charismatic...catholics with baptist tendancies. During the time of that course the larger prayer community gathers in prayer on one particular day and prays as the disciples and apostles did for an out pouring of the Holy Spirit. It is the Catholic beleif that the out pouring of the Spirit starts in and with the Sacramental Waters of Baptism, then reinforced through all the remainder of the other Sacraments, with special emphises on the Sacrament of Confirmation, (the coming of age creating an adult catholic).

To this day I still remember when the community of Emmanuel Prayer Group (formally out of St. Basils in Toronto), laid hands on me...I was an emotional wreck, but a good kind of wreck. Like yourself I cried, and cried, but felt so at peace. That peace has been reinforced since my ordination to the priesthood and then last July when I was elevated to the office of Bishop.

I still try to remain open to the Spirit of God, but on here it gets a little crazy at times, and I forget that we are all on the road to God's Kingdom and how we get there is partially individual choice and partial the choice of the Spirit. May your journey be blest now and always after what you have come to experiance.

Peace be with you.

Bp. David

I'm not sure what you experienced. Probably just a deep seated psychological emotional release. And that's great! But honey, it wasn't a ghost or holy ghost. There is a connecting spirit deep within all of us, but it isn't this entity called the holy ghost in the Bible.

Please see my silly question below about the Holy Ghost. And I'm still alive to talk about him.

Awesome! I would suggest getting some reading material on the subject that is written by people that are for it. Try Kenneth Hagin, he is a great author on the subject. Also, look into the publishing company "Faith Library Publications" they have lots of great books that are Bible based. You can find them both at "rhema.org". It is a ministry out of Tulsa, OK.

17 years ago I had hands layed on me and it felt like electric shocks through my coat and pants everywhere that hands touched me. I was overcome with a tremendous warmth. The devil must of been waiting outside, as soon as I left the church, negative and evil thoughts came to mind. I may have been full of the spirit but it was up to me to change my ways. The moral is "God helps those who help themselves".
