Recon, is different. It's the act of sending soldiers into a hostile area with the intent to search, gather specific information about terrain, troops, etc. then report to our main forces what they've noted.
Surveillance, is monitoring a specific individual, or group, and following them. Then reporting back with the info. Both need to be done without the observer's presence being known.
Snipers go out for different types of missions. Some will target certain types of soldier, others certain rank officers. Every once in a while a specific officer will become a priority. Snipers sometimes go for these.
Pres Carter actually made it illegal to assassinate a specific political figure, so THEORETICALLY snipers are'nt used against politicos. LOL, seems convenient that politicians made it illegal to kill politicians..........

Reconnaissance is gathering of information and marking of targets for attack.
But in the case of Force Recon,who are Marine special ops,they perform advanced reconnasince and scout snipers take out high military figures (ie.generals,commandants,colonels.)Scout snipers also take out,certain things like,enemy radio towers and other enemy equipment.
