theblessedguy - I have no comment, and for the others, I actually do live in a civilized country with liberal views on sexuality etc. No I am not a virgin, nor am I married (yet) this is just an opinion poll........they say curiosity killed that cat, not his urges!!!

Firstly, I don't expect a woman to be a virgin until she is married. There is no double standard and most women start using that complaint after they are already too promiscuous. Women, stop blaming men for the shame you may or may not feel about how many partners you have had. We can only take responsibility for our own actions and you should do the same! Men aren't sitting around feeling sorry for themselves because they like to smash a lot and neither should you. Sex is a physical act that should bring you pleasure. Enjoy it the same way you eat chocolate. I don't hear you complaining about why Hershey's is so good and shouldn't be and then blaming them because you ate the bar!!

Answering a question with a question -
Where does the concept of being a virgin when wedding come from?
Women seek the best available genes for their offspring and have a biological urge to breed when they find superior genes. They also try to select the best provider for their offspring. This often sets up a conflict where a husband often raises another mans child.
Since there was no way (in the past) for a man to know whether or not a child is of his blood, he tries to do what ever he can to ensure that he is not raising another mans child. Most male-centric religions (Judeo-Christian-Muslim for instance) are focused on keeping women as isolated from other men as possible. Fear and tradition are the most effective ways for this and religion is the best way of instilling fear and tradition.
Wouldn't it be better, in today's world, if we all just accepted all children of our community as our own and cared for and raised them as though they were our blood. If there were not ways to check, wouldn't we try harder to care for all children because there is a chance they are ours?
What might happen if men become legally responsible for t supporting ONLY their own offspring? Will the best genes be left out because those with them are poor providers? Will there be further separation between those with better genes and those with poorer genes? Will this cause more class distinction or further separation of ideas and ideals?

Remaining a virgin until wedding night has virtually lost out, however, it does not mean it's not ideal. One may say it is not easy but I say it is possible. The unfortunate thing is that we all want to eat our cake and have it. I heard of a lady who married at the age of 27 as a virgin. We've also had men over thirty in this part of the world who had no experience until they married. In some cultures it is a taboo for both gender and they strictly observe it. The matter you have raised is personal as well as its rewards and it is possible. God give all a sense of rational choice.

I would expect the same from her. If I have been patient enough to go against media, TV and peer pressure in order to save my virginity for the one I have married I wuld look for someone with similar values. I am curious though questoner - I believe that there is a scale between total novice and bordering on Mr or Ms Around the Way. Many people I have met want to be in the middle of the scale in a place called being 'Experienced'.

I think that the number of guys who honestly believe that their brides will be virgins is slim and the ones that are holding out for that more than likely are virgins themselves. There is nothing wrong with waiting though for either man or women it's a personal choice

If a woman wanted me to be a virgin until the wedding night I would do it. For the right woman I would do anything she wanted. But she would have to be true too me just the same.

My wife had already been married when I met her ( and had a child ) so it wasn't an issue. I wouldn't expect a woman to be a virgin if I were to get married. I think it's some - uh - non-Western communities that still expect that.

yeah i understand you. honestly saying most men think only of ourselves. but that what men are. especially in that kind of situation. coz its really in the personality of women to be less intimate or sexually active. most women really like to go to their weddings as a virgin. and to them virginity is a big deal. unlike men we feel that there is nothing to loose. anyway that is what the society and traditions usually are. women say that its unfair, yes it may be,but that's the way it is.
