The only reason Duke's lacrosse team got all the attention is that Duke is a big name and scandal sells newspapers. You're absolutely right, but not about the cops. They really do the best they can - but with inadequate funding and lacking serious community support, they do fall short all too often.
Remember the big deal stories in the past three years about the cute young WHITE girls? Despite the fact that as many of these heinous crimes are perpetrated against girls of color, newspapers and the electronic media - radio and television - go with the stories that appeal to people the reporters, editors and publishers think are just like them - white - and whom they believe buy most of their newspapers or listen to their broadcasts - again white folks.
No, hon, it's not just the cops, it's society, which is just as racist and sexist and homophobic and antis e m i t i c and anticatholic and antiimmigrant as it's ever been. Massa ain't the plantation owner no more, but he the man hire and fire you and abuse the bejesus out of you.
Race relations have come a long way, but the job is by no means over. The fight for equality goes on. It's good that you're angry. Now join up with your sisters of color and your sisters in general and put that anger to work. You do have a lot of support from some of us white guys - but like I said, there's still a lot - a LOT - of work to do!

Stop whining and get over yourself. Some white kids got attention, so what? There are plenty of instance of 'white' kids committing crime that don't get attention, and you would complain about that too. Stop throwing race around and try to make a difference in your community by acting like an American and NOT whatever COLOR you think you are.
If you community is like others, the reason the cops don't do anything is because people like YOU complain and dont give them information. If you want the cops to do something about the crime start giving them info that you know. Why should they care when all you do is complain and don't try to help yourself. You expect someone else to take care of all your problems. Grow up.

For two reasons:
1. It's media sensationalism
2: It's an "alleged" white on black crime.
Face it, if it was a black on black crime or a white on white crime, it wouldn't get noticed because this wouldn't sell.
In regards to your comments about cops being pigs. It's not that they aren't doing anything. You need to remember that it's the legal system that sets the punishment for criminals and if they are set free, it's the judges and the lawyers you should complain about. Do some research on your local officials and try to help change the laws. A good beginning, vote if you are of legal age to do so. If you don't vote, why do you whine and complain about how things are?

It's not that anyone is racist. It's very complex and dynamic. As you and I know (I also have lived in the ghetto), there are alot of drug dealers, prostitutes in the ghetto. More so than in any suburban white neighborhood. Both "career paths" are very lucrative and can be very financially rewarding.
These people chose to follow these "careers" instead of following through with school and taking a lesser paying desk job. Now the police step in. They take away the career of that individual, and eventually the drug dealer/prostitute is back out faced with the dilemna of what career to choose again. Back to old tricks is the easiest. Oops, police watching that street corner now. Not as easy anymore. The drug dealer now goes across town and tries robbery to supplement his/her income. The police have now succeeded in "breeding" crime. By them trying to stop one crime (the career), they have made others (the robbery).
The police realize this. Thus, they don't press many issues in urban neighborhoods (ghetto).
The problem starts in one area. It's not the police who are to blame. Nor is it any other race of human. In the ghetto, we are to blame. That same law that allows many to live like kings and queens, also is the demise for others. If a man has a child with a woman, and disappears, in some states, the woman must pay child support to herself. Is that nutz? Where does the law come up with crap like this? AND where do men (term used loosely) think they can just go from woman to woman having as many kids as they want? OH, they were probably high from that crap they bought from that drug dealer that the police allowed to be on the street (cause if they didnt someone would get robbed or worse) Now the woman, having a child on their hip, has to make an income. Many turn to prostitution unfortunately. Police cant arrest a woman for doing the only thing she can do to feed her kids. The ONLY prostitutes they arrest are who? The ones with drug problems. Think about it.
Drugs caused there to be a drug dealer. Drugs caused many pregnancies to happen that may have not happened otherwise. Drugs caused the robbery. Drugs caused prostitution. So DRUGS are to blame! NO NO NO!
WE are to blame for USING drugs! If you smoke one joint, one blunt, do one line, YOU are the reason for the ghetto. The ghetto isnt outside your window. The ghetto starts from inside YOU!
So get people out of the ghetto. Show them what they can be. Be living proof that they dont have to be drug dealers, prostitutes and most of all, that they dont have to use drugs. I made it, so can you.

There seems to be a certain combination of race and dollars that grab the public imagination. I actually think it's refreshing in a very odd way that at least this time the alleged victim isn't a pretty blond girl. Normally that seems to be a requirement to get national attention.

The media likes nothing better than to scream how horrid rich, white, jock, college boys are. And the fact that they "raped" a black woman (single mother/stripper -- a perfect victim for the media!) was pure gold. Plus you have the speed with which the DA obtained the indictments against these guys, based (we now know) on false information given by said "perfect" victim.... and it is just one big, juicy, gossip tale.

It is good copy for the media. The media is always in search for something sensational in order to up its TV ratings, OR in the case of newspapers and magazines, to increase their circulation. This is call3ed "yellow journalism" and it used to be frowned upon, but today it seems to be the norm. Trash TV and tabloids live for such stories, and they are very skilled at taking something that is insignificant and blowing it up into a major scandal. Be careful about believing what you see and read---a lot of it is made up. Lies are all around you and it is difficult to trust anyone. You can trust Jesus because there are no lies in him. He can open your eyes to the truth that is around you that you can better detect the lies of the world. Jesus loves you and he died for you. Embrace him today and know the truth, and the truth shall set you free from the devil.

One reason and one reason only. It's a white on black crime in a predominately black community. If it were a black on black or a white on white it would be old news no one would care.
