8 oz. or 1 cup. a total of 64 oz. I recently heard that you are supposed to drink half your body weight in water, so if you weigh 150 pounds then you would drink 75 oz of water or a little over 9 cups a day.

On the average, a person should drink eight 8-ounce glasses every day. That's about 2 quarts. However, the overweight person needs one additional glass for every 25 pounds of excess weight. The amount you drink also should be increased if you exercise briskly or if the weather is hot and dry. Water should preferably be cold - it's absorbed into the system more quickly than warm water. And some evidence suggests that drinking cold water can actually help burn calories. When the body gets the water it needs to function optimally, its fluids are perfectly balanced.

When the health experts say 8 glasses they're referring to a glass as being 8 ounces. I've heard some experts say that between 6 to 8 glasses of water a day is fine. You can also substitute other liquids like decaf tea or coffee for some of the water.

They're talking about an 8 ounce glass for a total of 64 ounces. A lot of dietitians and doctors are now saying that is a myth. Come to think of it, nothing that feels forced can be realistically necessary for you. And don't forget, a lot of fruits and vegetables are mostly composed of water, not to menyion any juices you drink. So I tend to thi nk that four or five glasses are enough, and if it's hot, or you worked out, you'll feel it if you need more.

A simple way of approximating the amount of water needed is to take your weight in kilograms, + 10 to it, then divided by 8 to get the number of 8 oz. glass of water needed each day. I am 46kg, so I need around 7 glasses each day without exercise. That is roughly 8 * 7 * 28.3 = 1.6 L of water.

You're not "meant" to drink 8 glasses of water a day. That's all myth and folklore, and won't do a damn thing for you except keep you peeing all day. Drink when you're thirsty. Period.
