I am currently processing my application for an american DV Lottery, I was told that I'd have an advantage if I present the names and addresses of one or two persons I am likely to stay with when I get there. What's likely to happen if I don't present any name as I am expected to fill them into the DV Lottery forms I'll take along for my interview, what chances do I stand?

Congratulations on your lottery win!

You will need a financial sponsor who will fill out an I-134 Affidavit of Support for you. If you don't have one, you won't get the visa.

You don't say who told you the information would would be of help. Was it an US Department of State official, or was is a friend/acquaintance? If you don't fill out your application to the satisfaction of the State Department, it will be denied. Do to the importance of your application, you should have your questions answered by persons within the State Department.
