Why should my taxes be used to educate other people's children? Why should my taxes be used to put out the fire on someone else's house? Why should my taxes be used to bring democracy to someone else's country? Just wondered.

One should learn proper grammar when asking a question that many will see. Not many will regard a poorly worded question with any interest if you are without writing skills.

As to your question. The way that, and I assume you are American, the government works is on taxes. Education is a federal thing. Note that we are discussing public schools. The government pays for children to learn. After a fashion.

However, you are a citizen of your country and sometimes there are certain things that you have to do. Paying taxes is one of those things, which when the country was first founded, was voted upon.

Perhaps your understanding of the way funds are allocated is somewhat lacking.

Also, you are not "bringing someone else's children up". As you so eloquently put. You are at the very most paying for a small portion of their school.

Parents still bring up their children, and you should do well to remember that the world doesn't revolve around you. Children need the help of everyone to grow into adults. If that means a percent of the worker's wages, then so be it.

Grammar note : the way you state your second clause (and it's very bizarre)... Well, you should read it again.

Family welfare is cut from the family to a lifetime family use of 5 years or less. This change was enacted by Pres. Clinton.
Most of the money collected in taxes is used for other stuff. The welfare program is one of the smaller programs the government has. Did you know that we spend 4 times more on corporate welfare than we do on child and family welfare? When the government bailed out Chrysler way back, they spent the same as 6 years of the family welfare budget? Mr. Iacocca (please forgive my spelling) never took a salary cut. The same with Airline Delta, and the Ammunition plants, nuclear power plants, farmers are paid to not plant crops... etc.
The money that taxpayers spend on corporate welfare in one year would provide every four people in America with a very nice house, paid in full.
There is also the nasty little secret that we send over 10 times the money spent on family welfare to feed people in countries whose names I can’t even pronounce.
If you want to grump, start with the business that takes your tax welfare, and still charges you full price for your car, airline ticket, food stuffs and gasoline. I promise you, were this business welfare withdrawn, you would never notice the money spent raising America’s kids.
I understand your sentiment. I shared it until I got cancer from my job. Now I have needed and used your help. Thank you.
By the way, both of my girls won full scholarships to school, had you not fed them, they would not be productive taxpaying citizens now. Not all welfare parents are the prince and princess. I would have rather worked, but when I tried to, I was ineligible for all health insurance. I would have literally been forced to die if I worked during that time. Thank you for your assistance in my time of need.

i suffer from a condition that means I cannot work while I bring up my kids and my husband had to go part-time to help me out. We wanted to have kids. I'm sorry if you feel screwed over by people but there are genuine people out there who need the help. although to be fair some people do take advantage of the system.

In general I don't mind paying taxes, even to educate other people's children as I benefit indirectly from that. I think that giving parents money to invest for their offspring at birth is not a fair way of using my money and it can be spent better elsewhere.
When children turn into louts I think their parents should be made to be more responsible.

ok, we won't use any one elses taxes to raise our kids but we won't pay taxes towards any one else for social security, NHS, disability, asylum seekers........I'm sorry, but hello? You really want to revert to victorian values of **** on those who have less than yourselves? I am proud of being British, we are the ONLY country in the world that has legislation in place to guarantee all under 16's education, we welcome the persecuted and protect the less well off. Get out of your **** and start appreciating how lucky you are.

Why should you benefit from other people's taxes, they never got to screw you? Come to think of it, they probably wouldn't want to, even if you paid them your taxes.

Because when you are old it will be the taxes of those working kids which will pay your pension. That's how the system works.
