When the timing belt snaps in a modern engine, it's a virtual certainty that valve damage will be done. The camshaft stops turning almost immediately which leaves several valves in a partially or fully open position. The rest of the engine continues to turn until you either declutch or the vehicle comes to a halt. One or more of the opened valves will be hit by the piston. This will bend the valve and may also break the piston.

The net result is several hundreds of pounds worth of damage. It will probably be best to have a rebuilt lump fitted or get a good runner from a breaker's yard. Check the motoring press for prices of rebuilt engines or call around breaker's yards for quotes. Most breakers can arrange for fitting as can any competent motor engineer.

nasty thing to happen i am a mehanic and the ruff prices are as follows,
if u bent valves ur looking at about £6-700 depending on part prices
if the belt snapped and you were lucky enough to not bend valves the about £200 but always follow the golden rule change your cambelt when the manafacure tells you to they are not trying to raid your pockets just saving you money in the long run hope i can help

Call your junk yards and ask if you can buy an engine that will fit and hire someone to install it.

To rebuild your engine could cost.... guess $2500 give or take.

Good Luck!
